Did not come with one of the required cables, but otherwise, it's an optical drive. it rips CDs, installs old games, plays movies, all that good stuff. I don't really know what to say other than that.
from completed build Borg Unimatrix
It plays CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays: exactly what I bought it for because I like owning my media and not renting it from streaming services.
from completed build Wife's Workstation
It plays blu-rays and DVDs and HD discs. It does need the right software but it does do those things.
My wife doesn't particularly need this but even long after my wife upgrades to a completely new computer in the future, I can instead use the computer as a media center for my blu-rays, DVDs, and emulated gaming thanks to this thing.
Works as advertised.

I don't think you really need a disc drive in your pc nowadays, and there are some decent usb externals that probably do the job. I've never had a problem with this one though, and its been a little above-average at reading some 'rough' discs that other readers had trouble with.
I have a large collection of old discs full of games, apps, music and whatever kicking around, and its nice to be able to plug them in, and copy what I want to save.

Does what it's supposed to...
Though, adding to that: "Playing BluRay Movies" is not something it's supposed to do sadly (which was my mistake).
It can write to BluRay storage media (as in discs), but it doesn't magically come with the software and encoders (or whatever they're called) to read the BluRay movies. Blame DMCA and the greedy film industry for trying to undo as much of the Betamax case ruling as possible in the name of "fighting Piracy".
So if you ever see "DVD on BluRay", it'll now make sense to you.

A great selection if you're looking for a device capable of R/W to multiple disc formats.
from completed build Long Time
This is a standard Blu-Ray writer. It does a good job. Old technology, should be perfected by now, and it is. Made by a reliable company.
