I have seen suggestions that based on Wuhan's cremation incinerators capacity and level of use, that their total current death count could look more like 40-50k. Pretty crazy stuff. Hard to say for sure, given an authoritarian government can pretty effectively keep information from getting out.

That would explain why we see such a large difference between China's data and observations from other nations.

TBH, people in rural areas don't need to take it quite as seriously as we do in cities. That's not to say they aren't at any risk. But, that risk is significantly reduced. This really needs to be treated specific to the area and severity.

Honesty, I have a feeling we'll see a large influx into the real estate market next year following many foreclosures. Banks will likely be trying to get rid of houses for whatever they can. It may be better to wait and see. It does look nice, though.

You mean mix it like when Engels and Marx intrinsically linked Socialism and Communism in their writings?

Yes panic can cause extreme problems.

Nowhere near as much as the virus can....Or, do you believe the "panic" would have been responsible for the, what ~40k death now?

Your hate towards China is unhealthy.

My hatred towards China is justified. They are one of the most corrupt morally reprehensible nations in existence. They have been responsible for approximately 100 million deaths between 1900-1999. And, they certainly haven't become more benevolent in the 20 years since then. They are nearly solely responsible for lying to the WHO about its transmissible and allowing this to spread, lying to the WHO about it. Stop defending a nation directly responsible for so much evil.

Common masks (surgical) never protect from getting infected. They have gaps around where air can get in, unfiltered. What they prevent is infecting others by minimizing aerosolized bodily fluids. Those masks don't help the doctor. They help all the other patients.

He was downplaying the situation.

Literally everyone was downplaying the situation. To say, we'd love to be open by Easter has absolutely not obvious negative consequences so why must you harp on it like it's a secret weapon you've been looking for? If that mild statement is even in your argument, then your argument doesn't seem very merited.

Anyways, Europe was mostly caught off guard for various reasons. We are trying, but... all we can do is slow it down now.

You could have done better...

We could have done better but you have an excuse? Hmmm. Well, we've managed to keep our death rate to ~10 / million. Unfortunately, a lot of European countries with less robust and effective healthcare systems haven't been as fortunate. We all could have done better.

It is understandable that they wanted to be sure b4 potentially spreading panic.

You'd almost think it would be understandable that they wanted to be sure b4 potentially spreading pandemic.

Oh, you said "panic." I forgot, panic is worse.

Yes it came from China, but that's not enough to condemn China.

How about falsifying reports to the WHO about transmissible and infection rates. How about letting 5m people travel from that area while you know human transmission is taking place? How about disappearing anyone that brings light to that?

But, sure, China was the epitome of a proper response.

Try freezing some of it. But, I'd recommend thawed milk be used for cooking rather than directly consuming.

"Milk will expand when it's frozen, so be sure to leave room in the container so it won't burst! After you have frozen your milk, it can be thawed in the refrigerator or in cold water and is safe for consumption. However, be aware that the flavor and texture of the milk may be affected."

Well we have effective treatments for the flu so it is nowhere near as bad as COVID19 is. The flu has a death rate of 0.01% and Covid19 has a death rate of 1-2% assuming full and proper medical care.

This is almost certainly not its true death rate. We know the death rate in the flu because we've dealt with it long enough we know roughly how many people get it each year. We have no idea how many people have already contacted COVID-19 that were asymptomatic or very minimally affected. It's thought that it could be 5-10 infected that we don't know about for every one we do. If 1:5 that would make the US current death rate ~.26%. If it's 1:10, it would be ~.13%. Definitely more deadly than the Flu, but most likely nowhere near as deadly as it would appear based on current data.

Did you comment half to me half to OP? Lol

But, a more accurate figure, at least for the US is a 1.8% current death rate. As you said, this could inflate from overwhelming the medical systems resources. But, also as you said, small deviations mean big differences.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Questions and thought concerning COVID-19"

There is around a 1.8% chance of death when comparing current infected to death percentages. Keep in mind, it is projected to infect up to 100 million in the US alone. That's potentially 1.8 million people killed by it. 1.8 MILLION. Seems like the response is far from unwarranted.

The numbers may be shifting, but that is almost certainly a result of awareness rather than any changes in the disease characteristics itself. With the relatively mild symptoms in younger people, I don't see it as unlikely that many cases early on were dismissed as common colds or a common flu strain.

We do need to try to spread this out over as much time as possible to ensure resources aren't overwhelmed. Original estimates were 2% death rate, now up to 3%. I think there a lot of margin of error when comparing this with the flu, however. Only because we have enough data points on the flu to make predictions about those not treated. It's hard to do that with COVID-19 at the moment since it's hard to say what actual infection rates are. If we go only off hospitalizations that number is bound to be artificially inflated.

Hopefully within 6 weeks or so we'll see worldwide reductions in new infections.

It's not fear mongering. It's potentially projected to infect 100 million in the US, regardless of measures or not. But, measures can mean it takes many months to do that versus just a few. If it infects too many people too quickly, facilities will be swamped to the point where the death toll will be higher than it would if the infections were more spaced out.

We need as much time as possible to get this under control to prevent unnecessary loss of life. Some inconvenience is well worth it. The reaction by the general public has me quite impressed, actually.

Alas I cannot help you with where to find them. But, I do have a recommendation, albeit very vague. A few years ago, when attending the community college I completed my associates at they had an international food day. One of the stands that was set up was a Japanese stand that had a bunch of candies. Most...didn't really taste that great, tbh. One tasted like bread, which was odd. But, one was amazing. It was a pear fruit. Tasted exactly like a pear. It was pretty cool. If you find any pear candies, give em a shot.

what Trump's government has told ICE to do to other human beings!

The laws for deportation of illegal immigrants were on the books and enforced far before Trump took office. I'm trying to remain neutral here, but I have to mention that. And, you are correct that fascism is a gradual process, generally. But, I don't really see enough autocracy or forced suppression of opposition to warrant the label. I will say, the number of executive orders he has made is in line with other presidents, given his length of office at the moment, which is unfortunate. There is a purpose for that power, but it is overused in my opinion.
