Noise is all gpu dependent. Cpu and case fans were quite enough where I could here the refrigerator in the other room 20+ feet away over them. I moved since the photos were taken and rearranged my setup. I bought a black cutting board off amazon and put it on the carpet for the tower to sit on. I usually go for a frame cap or under clock to keep things from getting wicked loud
All things considered I prefer air coolers now because there is less to mount, no pump gargling and I would rather undervolt and have a quiet system than overclock and fight noise. I had an EVGA gtx1080 hybrid in that build too and when overclocked it got loud! I wish I still had it because I would try undervolting it (I can't remember if I ever tried that on that build). My next build probably wont even have a window, the only reason I did RGB was to help sell when I go to upgrade. I feel like I waste a lot of time setting up lights that never work perfectly.
I will say that the mounting system of the DRP4 is a little wonky. Even when the cooler is mounted you can twist it in place slightly, enough to make it look like any gpu is sagging.
Are you going to post your build when it's done?
You caught me at the perfect time, I just set this build up in a new apartment and was sitting down to some youtube when I got the pcpartpicker notification. Anyways the front fan of the DRP4 sits perfectly between the 2 sticks of RAM. If I had tried to fill all 4 slots with ram sticks the tallest parts of the ram would just barely collide with the front fan where the mounting holes are on the fan of the DRP4. Hope this helps
I had no clearance issues with 2 sticks. Yes to the taller at the ends part. I think 4 sticks might touch but I'm not sure. If I was going to do this build again I think I would go with the 8700 no K and a dark rock 4 (not the pro.) That way you would be able to see the RGB goodness and save some $. I run this system with a slight undervolt on the cpu so I can game without hearing any fan noise.
P.S. PCPartpicker Email notifications are great
looks good. whats in the lower PCIE slot?
The color coordination of the first photo is level 9000. You take great photos and I think your PC is beautiful. good day
are you going to post your build?
I'm tempted to delid, but then I would have top reset my fan curves.
TY, I don't have any experience with Noctua but I can tell you this... I had the stock fractal design fan in the basement until I got another be quiet in the mail. I accidentally put the new fan in backwards (exhausting through the basement) and my GPU temps went up 10 degrees playing overwatch at 140fps. Flipped the fan over and back to a cool 60 degrees.
If you look at the second picture you can see the PCIE cover going from the GPU power connector to the power supply shroud
No sagging what so ever
Yes, the top fan definitely helps. I started with two top fans but the one in front just steals cool air
Tinted or clear? I would personally like the solid side panel that's easier to remove with 2 captive thumbscrews but I'm afraid of never being able to sell it :/
Does the ram touch the Dark Rock Pro 4?
I have not, I'm not so RGB crazy
network resources not the CPU. I used to have a 5 Mbps internet connection and you tube videos would stop to buffer because of those stupid live tiles. knowing that they have such an impact on network performance the first thing I do with a fresh install is always to turn off and then unpin all of the live tiles
I think the one windows resource hog that bothers me the most is having to turn off all of the live tiles in the start menu. Then the privacy settings, then the windows visualizations, then mouse accel, then auto updates. Then I know there’s more...
The dark rock pro is quiet, I sold it but I think I’ll build another and delid this time. Side note I wish it had a small led or something, it’s kinda awkwardly dark in the age of rgb everything
Dell s2716dgr I believe
No problems at all
Yes. Where the fan clips go it’s tight and does leave the edges light colored. However it’s not noticeable when mounted
Yes you can fit fans up there but it’s tight
No delid. Acceptable temps at 5ghz. I don’t actually remember the numbers now, it sold like 2 weeks ago. I’d love to see the delid temps
I think the cooler will still block the view and your thermals will suffer. I think it was bitwit who did a video with this cooler where he removed one fan and then tried to run it 100% passively, it didn’t work
so far...... I play a lot of PUBG with mostly very low settings, high AA, and medium post processing for the best visibility and with very little jaggies. With the hard coded frame limit of 144 I can keep frames above 100 at all times, even when landing. I've set the 8700k back to stock and run no oc software for the GPU. It's a very slight purr and with a room fan on or the central air conditioning I can't hear it without putting my face to the mesh. The GPU is by far the loudest part and I run the case fans at about 60% at CPU idle temps to keep it (the GPU) cool. I'm not sure if the cases with covered fronts would be any quieter because the GPU might get choked and the fans would ramp up. After having AIO's and listening to the occasional strange noise I would personally prefer the smooth hum of some fans. One more thing, If you overclock this GPU in this and get it hot IT IS LOUD! I don't know why you would need to, I haven't found a game that it struggles with. Happy Building
Thank you. No clearance issues and if my memory" serves me correctly there was space for all 4 sticks. PUN. However I wouldn't get any taller modules and if you are doing a clear tempered glass build I would recommend low profile ram for the aesthetics. Idle at 37-38c @ 4.8ghz. With my fan curve all fans (case and cpu cooler) are at 50% fan speed @ that temp. I backed off the OC's because it games so well and so..... .. . quiet!!!!!!!!! Stock thermal paste... I'd love to do a delid but not necessary
I actually took off the glass just for you bud and I keep a ruler at my desk for that 12.5" per 360 in game. I have exactly 1 inch from GPU back plate to stock fan
not really. She uses my PCs often for big task but most of the time she prefers to write on her cheap sub $200 magenta laptop while lounging in the living room. Shes a casual PS4 girl who closes the door for me while I'm raging in BF1 : )
that lighting though
I like your style. I didn't see your build before as it doesn't show up under builds with dark rock pro 4, maybe because you have it as a custom part. I like the black out myself but I'm trying to find a way to light up that big ol' rock for advertising sakes
footnote. these numbers are with all fans set to standard (not performance or silent. Asrock mobo setup) Now at 5ghz stressing cpu, fpu, and cache I'm seeing 82c and while using chrome to write this i get Warning hardware failure test stopped.
when only stressing cpu at 4.8ghz 66c
so I fired up AIDA64 stressing cpu fpu and cache at 4.8 ghz- 79c. GPU is a mixed bag, running master bios with no OC playing pubg it sits around 72c. Let me try 5ghz
TY. I'm yet to really test it out but i should have plenty of time tonight. Is there a specific test you have in mind? Gaming at 5ghz i saw 88c once but I think that was before I took the time to set up the fan profiles
The one on the left was from new egg and I can’t recommend it because they always get damaged in shipping. Also I can’t remember what it was called. The desk on the right is an IKEA thing called “malm”. I don’t have an IKEA nearby, I just scored it off Craigslist
I really just wanted to build another PC, and upgrade, and make something smaller. Liquid cooling is great, it's just not that great. custom loops are expensive... nough said there . AIOs on graphics cards are surprisingly loud and the fan is usually mounted where its still plenty audible. Also there's almost always some kind of pump noise. Like a linus tech tip video.. it depends...personal preference lol
hey thanx. I knew about the manual pricing yet i wanted to make the price more realistic. No one is going to spend an extra $100 to get this sold out board instead of the darker version. I'll probably mend the parts list
classy right? I really like the high stance of the architects chair
TY. I also saw those crates yet i haven't seen one with the arctic motherboard and I'm happy to say that i got a better deal on my parts :)
TY. I wasn't satisfied with the way things panned out in the back of the case (very limited space) so I removed all of the cables and started over. Check back tomorrow for some updated pics.
I’m going to try a small piece of sticky note and sharpie. Electrical tape leaves a mess
I've ordered the same motherboard and now i see that fugly red bios LED. please tell me there is a way to shut that off?
I'm in full panic mode! I've ordered the same motherboard and now i see that fugly red bios LED. please tell me there is a way to shut that off?
looks great. Is there any intake fan?
That's a lot of headroom for a chip with a TJMax of 100c. thanks for the info.
Does it play All of the Lights when you press the power button??? About the cpu cooler, you said that you are lookin into an AIO, does the cpu get to hot? Are you OC'ing? Can you send us some numbers? TY in advance
I've been wanting to do an air cooled build after my last overkill liquid build (the aio's seem loud). If you ever feel the need to go into bios, turn the multiplier to 50 and record your max cpu temp with cpu-z or afterburner while gaming I'd love to get your results.
I'm looking to do a similar cpu/cooler setup, can you tell me about your temps and overclocks?
I copy, sorry
