I doubt they don't understand firearms are legal in some countries. I think, because this is a thread about what would you do in a certain situation, they thought about themselves, and simply neglected to consider firearms are legal in some countries because (I assume) that wouldn't be relevant to them.

They do, try downloading any non-app store app, and it'll be revoked

Fair enough, I'll take your word for it. But I still wouldn't say that's horribly restrictive :P

Not sure what you mean by this. I was referring to apps and customization, which you can do a lot of on Android.

You said something along the lines of 'anything I want' twice, so I just assumed. Bad on my end.

???

My point was iOS is definitely not North Korea incarnate. Not even close lol.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Phones"

Yes, they do, because if you download a non-app store app that they don't want you to have, they'll just revoke it and make you no longer able to open it. Emulators? Gone. File editors? Gone. Recording softwares (For people not running latest firmware where it's built in?) Gone.

I don't think they can just go and block access to random apps.

They physically stop you from downloading any app you want, and customizing anything you want. Which as the person who owns the phone, I should be able to do. If I download a virus, just like with a computer, that's my fault, but generally you don't download "frEe fortnIxte!!".exe.apk from the website "http://iwanttodie.com"

Dude even Android isn't that omnipotent. It sounds like you want to write your own OS.

Yeah, it kind of is.

Lol

Fair point, but one thing I hate is how if you're in say, Notes, and you prefer chrome browser over safari, it will still open safari with no option to change it.

That's annoying, I agree. There should be an option to change that.

? I don't mean data that "personalizes" ads or whatever. I mean something that would install a keylogger or something similar to collect usernames and passwords.

I don't care, I should be able to download what I want on my own phone

Is Apple physically stopping you from doing so? No. They have rules and guidelines for apps allowed on the store, just as Google does for the Play store. If an app doesn't comply, it's either not allowed on or taken off.

apple is way too restrictive

Explain how so. What are they physically stopping you from doing? The only restriction I can think of that fits with your thoughts is that you can't download apps directly from web sites. That doesn't define "awful restrictive nature" to me.

You can't seriously be excusing awful restrictive nature with this.

Did I say I was? I'm aware Android is generally more open than iOS. Should iOS be more customizable, like Android is? Yes. I think so as well. But you make it sound like iOS is North Korea incarnate.

Edit: Forgot that Apple does try to draw you into their ecosystem. That's a fair point, but since there's nothing forcing you to buy their products or use their stock apps (e.g. using WhatsApp instead of iMessage), I still wouldn't count that as "awful restrictive nature". You can have just an iPhone and only non-Apple products otherwise and still get around fine.

Wow, it's almost like Apple doesn't want shady devs trying to collect data (usernames and passwords come to mind) for the sake of using / selling it.

  • not 'for' or 'against' iOS, or saying Google does a bad job of moderating the Play store. Just putting that out there.

  • Noctua (even though I have no experience with them lol)

For example, there are some that are given to infants, and can actually harm them or get them sick under a certain age, yet they are still administered.

Isn't that malpractice then? The vaccine doesn't control who gets it and who doesn't.

Or, the biggest one, the Flu shot. It has been priven again and again that the flu shot is NOT effective, and kids with the flu vaccine are actually MORE likely to get the flu compared to an unvaccinated one.

Please prove this, then. Could you find a source or link?

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Anti-Vaxxers"

just ones we feel are not effective, therefore not neccessary

Yes, because a vaccine should stay relevant in the medical world even though it is ineffective and generally useless.

How can you tell when a vaccine is "not effective"? And what about "not necessary"?

You have a fair complaint. That's exactly why we should (imo at least) push education and (respectful) discussion. It's always better when someone comes away with a different perspective or having learned something new.

I wouldn't go so far as blatantly "transphobic"... maybe "not fully informed" would be better?

Do you even know what the word offensive means?

Meh... I'd reword that to be honest with you. That has the potential of creating animosity instead of a discussion, which I assume is the opposite of what you want. Tragik's opinion differs from yours and mine, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be discussion. (To his credit, he does admit to being "no authority on this subject" and appears to be relatively open.)

Nah.

He/him/his = If identifying as male
She/her/hers = If identifying as female
They/them/theirs = Gender neutral pronoun, or if identifying as nonbinary, genderfluid, etc.

The point is, regardless, pronoun choice is up to them.

And yes, "they" is grammatically correct :P

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Car Discussion - Car Modification"

  • 1 point

Well.. no... I understand the point you were trying to make (older cars are easier to modify because they lack the electronics and complexity of more modern cars), but using an F40 and a Ford GT is not a good way of conveying that. Neither were designed with the possibility of being modified. A WRX STi, on the other hand, while not intentionally designed to be modified straight out of the factory, has potential to be modified, is accessible to lots of people due to its relatively inexpensive price, and has a large modding community behind it.
