Yes! That looks very familiar to what was in other server boxes they've had. How does something like the S331 hook into a chassis? I know regular black planes, like the wide SAS ones just slot right into the back but there S331 looks like a board, are there slots for it to be screwed down inside a case?

Ah, thank you! I had a feeling PCI-E would be the answer to at least one of them. To lead off of this, Linus Tech Tips has a server with 1PB of storage, some 60, 15TB Seagate drives in one box all over SATA. Is this an example of a metric ton of SATA expander cards or some other server magic?
I had completely forgotten about SAS, looking online I can more than confirm their price, a Seagate 15K runs almost 100 USD for a single 300GB drive, yikes!

I am planning something similar for myself in the future. Was wondering how you added double rads up top when the default is a single 420. Did you just buy the quad 120 mounts from Corsair and slide them on the rail? I would think it would be this easy but you never know. Also, how did you run the tubing into 4 rads, did you run from block to rad to rad and over again? Always curious about how a quad rad loop would work. Last questions I promise :) What do you use all the drives for? I do video editing myself and was wondering how you have all of your disks set up, and is the 905P really as lightning fast as they say?

I have looked around a bit more since the initial post and it seems that my plan wouldn't work in its entirety due to not enough TB3 outs. The dock would need a TB out for the interface and the monitor, but that isn't possible (or it seems that way because no docks have it) it looks like. Guess I have to wait a little longer for a new iteration of TB and display DP and HDMI.

I do not have a gaming headset, however, my friend has a pair of Hyper X Clouds from Kingston, the original ones, I tried them out and they were great, they are extremely comfortable, hence the name cloud. The mic probably isn't great (he uses a blue yeti) but the headphones sound great, I advise watching a the Linus Tech Tips Review of the Cloud IIs which are still under 200$. Or even the cloud revolver which is the even more updated version. Hell, there's even a revolver S if you're feeling really baller. I'm more into studio gear so my opinion would be something like an ATH-M50x which are really nice for listening to music, making music, gaming, anything, very widely used and are 150$ so if you wanted a mic you could get one, rn I use a Logitech C920 as a mic, the quality is meh but still not bad imo.

I recently found this, DACs are very very cheap, go on Amazon and look up "USB audio interface", the Behringer UM2 Or UMC22 (will probably get the 22), are both under 60$ and offer good DACs with an XLT input for mics, you don't really need a 100$+ interface, cheap ones do just fine, my friend has a 20$ DAC that he loves. USB audio interfaces are your best bet unless you want a dedicated amp, dedicated DAC and dedicated 48V power for XLT mic. The UMC22 is basically a metal version of the UM2 with a few more dials and is actually cheaper on Amazon for some reason
I looked this up and it seems the only difference between balanced and unbalanced wires is that UNB has a ground wire surrounding the audio ones to eliminate some interference. However, I don't think it is much of a difference audio wise, just how the wires are made. Don't quote me on this, but that's what I've been able to gather, Evil_Paroxysm (above) will probably be able to answer this. I'm in the same boat you are, I think I may end up buying the 2i2 for the xlr (mic), dac and amp, to get the most out of all my audio sources.
I will have them maybe 2 or 3 ft away from my ears on my desk. So I don't need a dac or amp? I plan on getting an xlr driven mic as well. If I want to run my speakers and my mic from 1 box would I want a 212i? Or would I just need a power box for the mic? I read that for laptops you would want a dac as onboard ones are blah, idk how good my onboard is and I want to get the most out of the speakers. There's even static in my cheapo 20$ placeholder ones so I worry about 250$ studio grade ones.
We've got plans to counter top the computer area at some point in the near future so maybe I can go for a mixer if I've got the desk space. You seem to know a bit about mixers, are mixers and controllers very similar? I'm assuming because your plug headphones in for mixing on controllers and mixers that they both have dedicated amps as some mixing headphones are very high impedance. Do mixers and controllers also both have DACs for hooking them to speakers for mixing at home?

Wow, hard work truly pays off! I hope to get a much better job when I go to school as well. I only work >4 hours every week (I work until all my work is done then I Leave). That is a very good idea, conserving and not going out much, which I don't do anyway so there's a step in the right direction.
How long did it take to get all the money and planning together to build this monstrosity? These builds (my plan included) are VERY expensive. I would assume as an adult it would be much easier as your income would be much higher but you can't dump all of it into a PC. How long did it take so that you could afford both your rent and computer ?
That's cool. I plan on doing a dual loop (one for GPU and one for CPU) with separate res' for each loop. It says on the page of that res mount that the SMA8 will only hold 1, it looks like it could hold 2 but maybe because of radiators and fans in front. Do I just have to pull a Jay and drill into the case itself and hope I don't mess up and buy a new backplate?
I also just looked at Caselabs website again and saw you used a reservoir mount. I was wondering why you have that. I cannot seem to find an obvious use for it.

I too got inspired from JayzTwoCents, seeing that I was like "I gotta have something like that". It's not just a showpiece its a work of art, you put so much time into doing something you really like and it turns out fantastic. Thank you again and let me know how that pastel turns out. I heard Jays changed color, its hit or miss with fluid, I have all of my build planned out except for the fluid, however, it seems quite easy to drain the fluid, flush it and refill it if it messes up. How did you get all the necessary info to water cool your first build? I have looked at Jay's videos and countless articles, is there anything else you would recommend?
Far down the road I plan on also doing a crazy water cooling build like this one (and the exact same case). How was water cooling? I have never done it personally but eventually, would like to get into it. When I do mine I plan on bending the tubes, was it hard to get the right length to cut the tubing? Did you have any issues with having 2 separate 2x4GB RAM kits? What was one of the most challenging things about building this? What was the easiest thing? How is that board? I really like the look of the Rampage V Extreme with the red and black. I am very skeptical about how RGB will look on a mobo. One last question, what fluid did you use, it looks amazing and I cannot find it listed.

By color mismatch I mean between the LEDs on say a motherboard, GPU, RAM or other parts. I either wanted a bunch of LED parts with no Hue+ or a bunch of matte parts and a Hue+. From what I've seen the LED parts could look tacky together and one uniform lighting source all around the case looks great imo. My color theme will be strictly red and black (cables, board, everything). I have seen MSI get ragged on for certain products (I forget which ones). The reason I am guessing it did not show up as it is EATX and with an ATX case PCPP doesn't think it will fit. I watched a YT video with the exact case and mobo I have chosen and it will fit, the cables just have to go through the drive bays and not the rubber grommets which to me is no big deal and looked very good in the video. What I mean is I will take out the motherboard (or GPU, CPU, etc.) part from the list and make a custom part labeled "LGA 2066/AM4 Motherboard" and set a price like 500$ that I would want to spend (maximum) on it. This would make it so I don't really have to decide on a mobo and can just look for one when I get the chance to buy but would still give me a price estimate for the build itself. This would go for a CPU and GPU as well and just give me an estimate without having to make a choice right now. Yes, by AMD boards I mean the ones with AMD sockets, and yes I know that AMD chips are not as good, by the time i build it I hope that statement will not be true :) And wow yes, the aesthetics today are almost as important as specs, in the 80s and 90s open window PCs were nearly non-existant and are just now going in style.
I am back and forth on aesthetics but all the builds I see that I like the best are all matte colors and maybe something like an NZXT Hue+ to light it up plus the different LEDs from different manufacturers might cause mismatched colors. I really want this build to be a VERY aesthetically pleasing one. "6 TB, I don't know, because it was the very high end and it seemed like all of your other parts were like that." Lol very very true! I like the MSI looks and my current card is great, I see all the 1080 Gaming X reviews and it's almost nothing but positive except for the unlucky 1 or 2 (out of 40 reviews) that got bad cards or had a component issue. That Asrock board is cool but the rampage board had an amazing balance of black and red (to me). I may just slide in a placeholder part labeled "motherboard for LGA 2066/AM4" (and probably the same for GPUs, and just keep it there until new CPUs and boards release. There have been some cool AMD boards that were red and black. I realize I seem like a total aesthetic snob but I just want it to look as good as it performs as I plan on putting it on top of my desk in the future.
I currently have 1TB Samsung 850 Evo, thus there was no storage listed. I was thinking about M.2 eventually. I gotta ask, why two 6TB drives? I guess for pure expandability it would be good. The board I was looking at had amazing looks and I am REALLY hoping Skylake-X gives a board like that that doesn't have RGB that's ROG Rampage as it is one of the best looking I've ever seen. I cannot find a red and black X99 motherboard that is just red and black (most have hints of grey). I was looking at the Strix cards in place of my MSI ones but I was a little skeptical of 3 ROG logos (1 on board and 2 on cards) and the red aesthetic is something I really want (currently have an MSI card and I love the look), The RGB backplate is also "meh". I think the reason it's not as expensive is because the video cards don't have prices. Lol, "anything" would mean any job or project I could need to do. I am a long way off of a career and whatever I decide to do I want a PC to do whatever I would need and not knowing what I'll use is why I decided not to dive into a 1700$ X-Edition. I think I will be waiting to build this much longer than 1080Ti and Titan P, I can only hope that a GPU with 1080+ performance will be available when I do get around to purchasing this. The same goes for the CPU, by the time I build this there will hopefully be even better 6 core options.
Dual CPU boards I don't really like the look of dual CPUs in general. The builds I've seen with dual 1080s have mostly 6700Ks with a few higher core models. I do not think it will be bottlenecked by a 6700K or higher as their frame throughput is very very high and even with slower frame feeders like the 6950X (slower clock, more cores) can do very well.
I am sincerely hoping AMD either matches Intel or hands Intel their *** with Zen as AMD has been very out of the CPU market lately and if they kick it back into gear and start making some competition the market will get some cool technology faster but right now Intel can hang back and wait for AMD to take a shot at them without making too many advances. I hope the same for NVIDIAs new GPUs and AMD Vega.
The 6850K is 150$ more than the 6800K and all it provides is a .2GHz more in clock speed and another 12 PCI-E lanes. This does not seem worth it as even 6700Ks can do SLI relatively well with a mere 16 PCI-E lanes. I am not very sure what this rig will be used for but I plan to have it when I get older to be a do anything (not so much go anywhere) PC. I will most likely edit the current parts list to fit the new tech that releases as time goes on. Depending on what the future brings I may upgrade the list to something like an extreme edition but I don't think it will ever get to a point where I need that. I am looking to SLI 1080s (or whatever top of the line cards NVIDIA or AMD come out with by then that aren't priced like a Titan) and I am also looking at an i7-6800K (or whatever AMD/Intel put out in the future), a 6 core processor especially as it would give me great flexibility for what I can do with my PC down the road. I wish to game at 7680x1440 (3 2560x1440p monitors side by side) as well as put an LG 34UC88-B (3440x1440p) up top for auxiliary (monitoring temps, processes, etc). By the time this PC gets built I hope to use it in professional applications such as 3d modeling or video editing.
