So I didn't want to deal with the possibility of my CPU not booting with a B350 motherboard due to an outdated bios needing flashing with the 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs. Being that the only extra CPUs that I have laying around are old AMD Athlons I decided to go with a B450 motherboard so that I wouldn't need to worry about any compatibility out of the box with Ryzen 2nd gen CPUs. No I wasn't going to deal with an AMD boot kit as I need to have things instantly! I am very disappointed with this ASRock bios as it is not very feature rich. I am also very disappointed with the memory compatibility which I will get to under the memory review. I hope that future bios releases will up the features of this bios and expand the memory compatibility.
So far, so good. It's got a bunch of Fan connectors, a solid VRM, and significantly improved software from my old AsRock 970 board.
Nothing wrong with this, but the support for this mobo is unbelievable. The issue is that I couldn't set my ram to its advertised speed even with XMP profile on and I couldn't change the ram voltage for some reasons. I emailed Asrock a week ago and haven't heard back and I couldn't find anything online.
Another thing to keep in mind, if you are using a m.2 ssd, the bottom m.2 slot is the only slot that supports that, the top slot is for Nvme.
Not the greatest, and I definitely overpaid
Think it looks cool. Not sure about the VRMs and stuff but allowed me to overclock my Ryzen 5 2600 to 4.1 Ghz at 1.3625v. Has all the ports and stuff I need. No RGB, which i appreciated.
Nice AM4 motherboard. Definitely worth it if you can get it on sale for around $65. It's also got some nice features that other micro-ATX B450 boards don't.
Great, cheap motherboard. I've had no issues with it and I love the BIOS - everything is logically placed and it is easy to navigate. Having three fan headers is awesome.
