Amazon Prime Day!

Well recently Amazon announced that they will be having a day similar to black Friday but it will be on July 15th! This could change a lot of things, first off... It is in the middle of the year, so no longer do we need to wait a whole year for the next large sale. With all that they are also doing a ten thousand dollar giveaway in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States! What do you guys think of this? Is it dumb or is it great? Tell me your opinion in the comments below.

Why would I know?

Only 10k? Is that every 5 minutes in every country listed or over the whole event? 'Cuz if it's a single payment over the whole event... They made a gross profit of 26,236.0 MILLION in the year ending Dec 2014, so that's just an insult. Heck, I think some casinos near me did that 10k/20min and they make a lot less than Amazon...

I think it's just disgusting. Even the "normal" Black Friday is bad. From having it "creep" earlier and earlier start times until it's actually a "Black Thursday" for most people to the benchmark-like stress levels on their networks (Best Buy failed the past November)... If they do this, we'll probably see "Black Spring" and "Black Fall" sales as well, splitting the difference as people lose the ability to wait or budget their money properly...

I can only hope that Amazon will make this event a promising one. If they actually have some crazy deals this 15th that'd be super exiting for the years to come as well.

I saw that yesterday. Going to sign up for 30 day Prime trial for the big sale on the 15th!

I will probably cancel shortly after :)

Do you know how useful prime is?

don't know much about prime as I have never bought anything at amazon.com :)

I know I don't want to pay the $99/year.

price wise, amazon is in par with competition

2-day free* shipping is pretty nice, but I agree; not going to pay $99/year for it.

I was a prime member for about four years and I loved it. I haven't been ordering things nearly as much, so $99/year was starting to make less and less sense to me. Their free* video & music selection really isn't good enough, either. Just get Netflix or Hulu.
I really wish that those of us that started before it went up to $99/year were able to be "grandfathered" into the lower premium. I wish that the premium increase only applied to new customers.

*Since you pay $99/year, I can't really call it free

Well it is 1-2 day shipping. It is not limited to how many times you can use it at all.

One thing is that it is only for products sold by amazon, so when you are filtering select seller as amazon.

I haven't seen any real price slashes yet. Did anyone else find out the brand of the tvs that were supposed to be $75 and $115? Also keep an eye on Walmart they're doing some sales ti compete with Amazon today.
