M.2 NVME Heatsinks - Overkill?

Are M.2 NVME Heatsinks overkill?. Like the Western Digital Black M.2 has an optional heatsink variant, etc. If your putting it in a desktop it can stay cool without a heatsink right?. I hear they only have thermal issues in laptops. Is that true?. Should I get a heatsink if I'm using a big 2TB Evo?. Can larger drives produce more heat?. Also would be using this drive for OS + Gaming and streaming/Recording. If I'm gonna use it a solid 5-7 or more hours a day will it stay cool still?. Thanks!.

It'll get hot if you slam it with big data transfers or if it's getting roasted by your gpu, some have cooling dissipation in the label sabrent rocket for example is copper backed label. You can always get one and monitor the temps in hwhardware to see what you get and add a heatsink later

Considering gen 3 and gen 4, I probably wouldn't get a heat sink for a gen 3 drive, but I agree with StarGazer, check in hardware Monitor if the drive gets toasty, and if so add a heat sink, if you want full black stealth(Or silver) I reccomend this
