Getting conflicting info on Ripjaws and Thermaltake Riing Silent 12 Red in ASUS TUFF Z390 Pr Gamer

Motherboard seller said no clearance problem between cooler and memory. But I asked Thermaltake via email and they said the cooler won't work with memory that tall (42cm per G.Skill).

While looking for a replacement cooler, I happened to look at the Thermaltake page for that cooler and it claims the model doesn't interfere with memory at all saying "Riing Silent 12 solves the co-existing problem of high performance RAM and CPU coolers, achieving the best RAM clearance." https://www.thermaltake.com/riing-silent-12-red.html

That page even has a pic of the cooler on an Intel board that shows the cooler not overlapping memory.

Anyone confirm which is right (web page or human tech)? They're closed on weekends so can't go for best out of 3 talking to Thermaltake. LoL

p. s. I've built maybe a dozen PCs for myself and others since 80286 days but my current one is an i5 about 5 years ago! Never knew this site existed until this build. Great place!

The email support representative may have mixed up the cooler with another. You won't have any issues with this unit.

For some added confidence - all of the following builds are using the same part with zero clearance concerns: https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_part/3HGj4D

I agree :)

BTW, if you haven't done-so already, try out the "System Builder" feature and add your motherboard, RAM, CPU, cooler, etc. The PCPP filters do a great job in ironing out compatibility concerns and if anything doesn't fit you'll be warned. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

Thanks.

I see now where you can get a list of builds with any part and some have pictures showing no overlap.

I'll definitely do the system builder thing right away. Wasn't aware it flagged potential issues. I was going to post the build when done.

That Scythe Mugen looks good if the Thermaltake one wouldn't fit. Good idea to offset the heat exchanger although I read it could have access problems on the other side with some MBs ; not sure what's that about. Quiet too. I have used Scythe fans in past builds.

I'm sticking with the Riing Silent since it won't interfere with the memory, I already have it, and I may be gullible but like the idea of the copper heat pipes directly against the CPU and to a lessor degree, no gaps between them.

I would have preferred if Thermaltake sold the same cooler but without the red (or blue) ring since I'm using a closed case that's just useless fluff. At first glance they appear to make one, but the detailed specs show the fan has an inferior bearing, although I wouldn't be shocked if its really the same bearing but someone copy pasted the wrong info.

Thanks again for tip to system builder.

Here's for this build. Missing items will be taken from the system this one replaces. Since they aren't currently sold, I figured not worth the trouble to manually enter them as those wouldn't be checked for compatibility anyway.

But I will be adding an M.2 SSD to replace the Intel SATA SSD drive that will carry over from the old PC to start.
