Hello friends of pcpartpicker I was wondering if you all can help me pick out some parts for a desktop that I will be using for my family's company. I need it to run really smoothly, since I will be using multiple Microsoft excel and have multiple tabs open. I just want the desktop to run smoothly no games or anything like that Budget wise would be under $800 if possible.

I was also planning to get a laptop as my previous laptop died. Would anyone suggest me a laptop that balances school and gaming but mostly school. Just simple games. Thanks everyone

That's a strange list considering the ask.

Then again, it does fit in the budget lol.

The way OP asked for a build is the same way my buddy asked. He basically wants it to be snappy AF for as long as possible. No way to get there with clock speed, as who knows what the future brings there. Only way is massive thread count. That's why I built my buddy a 1600x based system. In 5 years that system is probably still going to be chugging along zippy as all hell.

That PSU is pretty low end and not suitable for modern builds and it is crazy overpriced. I would recommend a CX/CXM instead.

You could probably down-grade the ram to 3200 Mhz and then get a better monitor.

You could but this is a great monitor for just doing work which is what the PC is for.

Yeah, but if he wants to game then 60Hz won't be enough.

Said no games. The laptop was for games. Also 60hz is passable.

Just simple games.

Even if he said simple games, it's still games. And 60Hz won't be enough.

This build should not only run smoothly but ultra quiet.

  • It uses the latest 9th generation 6 core Intel I5 9400 processor with integrated graphics processing unit (IGPU).
  • 16 GB of 2666 MHz RAM.
  • Blazing fast NVMe M.2 SSD with 3400 MB/s read & 2000 MB/s write speeds.
  • High quality and great airflow Fractal Design Meshify C mid tower case.
  • Dynatron K129 passive 95 watt CPU cooler, (fanless & noiseless with 95 watt capacity easily enough for the I5 9400 which is a 65 watt processor).
  • 450 watt Bronze rated Corsair power supply.
  • 2 x Noctua 120mm near silent case fans.
