Network Adapter Question

Will a PCIe network adapter/card produce a more stable WIFI connection than a USB Wifi adapter? I'm considering buying a PCIe card as my USB Wifi adapter is failing to produce a stable connection while playing certain games. I have no problem streaming the internet or anything, so I'm wondering if the problem is with the network or with the USB Wifi adapter. If the network protocol is 802.11ac should I look at buying a network adapter that meets that same protocol?
