I'm interested in minimizing the number of wires my system has. Since Bluetooth speakers are problematic, I was thinking that maybe I can at least combine the power and audio cables into one. The USB interface is an obvious candidate, since it has both data and power rails, but all the USB speakers I found online only use USB for power, and still have the standard 3.5 mm jack. Are there computer speakers that only have a single USB cable that acts both as power and audio interface?

The issue is that USB 3.0 can only push about 4.5w max power...thats not enough for any decent speaker. Thats less than factory built in monitor speakers.

Oh right, I actually saw that pair last week, but I disregarded it because of the bad reviews. I wonder if there's a better option?

You'd have to look around ; maybe try the various audio/computer reddits.

You've got somewhat of an odd request.
