Node 202 modding - alternative layouts

Hello,

I'm planning on linking builds I have bookmarked at home as evidence of possibilities.

I have a Node 202 : https://pcpartpicker.com/b/VvKBD3 - updated link Things that got me thinking: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/RZLJ7P , https://pcpartpicker.com/b/9bsJ7P ,

My ideal system is very similar in layout to the Node 202 but with a few changes that seem possible. Ideally I'd swap in a Gigabyte GTX 1070 ITX over the passive-modded RX 470. This would be for performance and for space. Next I'd like to shift the PSU, ideally the SF450 though I have the Integra 450w SFX PSU that came with the case, to the empty space in the GPU bay. I know this is feasible from an early Node 202 build on here, see second link above. I don't know if it is possible by default with the SF450 PSU but I am considering ways to mod the PSU mounting bracket to fit in the GPU bay or another way to mount it.

Next I'm looking to 120mm AIO's that I can fit in the regular PSU slot. I'd look at adding a vent to the "top" of the case to allow a push/pull config and move the filter to the intake side. I am unsure on tube length and rigidity or similar that would limit options in the enclosed space but I'm looking at Corsair and a Silverstone model with a thin raidator. Maybe even an NZXT variant if I convert the vent over the motherboard to glass/acrylic.

I'd probably be better off examining this at a much later date after Vega and volta launch to see what ITX GPU's come to market as well as the eventual upgrade to an unlocked CPU and motherboard. This is currently my main PC so mods are waiting until I decide to use my HTPC at my desk and invest in part upgrades.

I do think it would be awesome to have a Kraken cooler on a 7700k equivelent, a mini 1070 or better GPU, and probably custom length PSU cables to clean it all up. An M.2 Drive might be even better at that point too.

Has anyone phsycially modded their Node 202 this extreme and have any tips or advice on process, tools, parts, etc?

I've done some extensive modifications to several Node 202s. My current Rig, Node Way!, has been the most fun so far.

I'm currently finalizing plans for another Node 202 build that will utilize an external power supply, 7700K, GTX 1080ti, and two 960 Pro 512gb M.2 drives. I think two more 1tb drives will be added as well, but not exactly sure where they will go. The spot where the PSU goes will house a reservoir and pump. Both the 7700k and 1080ti will be water cooled. Depending on how much space the custom reservoir/pump takes up I'm thinking of just stacking the two ssds in that area or getting the client to get a 2tb drive.

I think this will prove to be just enough cooling to keep both CPU and GPU at pretty basic temps. With the water block, I'm pretty sure I can use a standard 2x120 rad with two thin 120mm fans OR I can I can use 2 standard 120mm fans and an thin 2x120 rad. It will be super tight, my main concern is air flow through the rad.

To me the Node 202 LOOKS like it wwas designed for modding and I can't believe we haven't seen more out there.
