Wired and wireless network adapters

Is it necessary to have a wireless AND wired network adapter on the same build? Such as these two parts:

Intel EXPI9301CTBLK PCI-Express x1 10/100/1000 Mbps Network Adapter (outdated?)

AND

Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter

in this PC build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/VXnHNN

Is this completely redundant, unnecessarily doubling up on hardware? ..or does it just depend on my preferences? I see myself mostly using a direct ethernet connection 99% of the time, but if my internet goes down, which it frequently does, I would like to have the option to wirelessly access a network from, say, my phone's mobile hotspot.

Suggestions appreciated, thanks for your support.

... I would like to have the option to wirelessly access a network ...

Wireless network adapter is required if mobo does not have onboard wireless chip.
Majority of the mobos do not include onboard wireless chip.

99% of motherboards, if not all, have built-in Ethernet ports that are very good (the motherboard in that build actually has two). So the extra wired Ethernet card is redundant.

The wireless card is not redundant as that motherboard doesn't have it, and most don't.
