Are the hd558s any good. I want something with a wide soudstage, removable cable, and good quality sound and brand. Other recommendations welcomed. Thanks.
I have the 558's and the 598's and, take it from a gamer and audiophile, they are the best headphones you can buy for the price if you want a damn good soundstage and best in class positional audio. Get a Mod mic for them and you have the best gaming headset in the business.
Yeah but M50X's don't have the best soundstage and their sound signature doesn't allow for the best positional audio. Great headphones nonetheless though.
Since you want a wide soundstage, your looking at open end headphones. HD 558's are good, 598's are good, 518's are good, but if you want the biggest soundstage for a good price, the Audio Technica AUD ATHAD500X have INSANE soundstage and with the way the sound is structured in the headphone, positional audio and soundstage will be top notch, more so than 5x8 series. The sound is good but it might not be best for every music genre, definitely not genres with a lot of bass. It also doesn't have a detachable cable.
With that being said, since you did want some of the things that this headphones don't have you might not want it, in which case the Sennheiser 518, 558, or 598 will all work great for you.
But to give a direct answer to your question, yes, the HD558's are great.
Yep, definitely can't go wrong with them.
