Just a small question. How much better is having a DAC & AMP combo vs onboard motherboard sounds?

Depending on the motherboard and headphones, it can affect a few things.

Beats even an audio card in my opinion. I'm not an audiophile though so your mileage may vary.

It all depends on... actually basically everything. MOBO, headphones, what DAC you're looking at..

mine was a major improvement, but i also needed one that would function for many things, and it does that

Generally speaking a discrete DAC AMP will give higher quality audio. It'll only be as good as the weakest link however. For example, a good DAC AMP with $30 headphones isn't going to do anything for you.
