The Broputer - Building a PC for my bro

I've recently considered the idea of building one of my buddies a computer for his 25th birthday next year. He has played his steam games on terrible laptops for too long and I want to do something awesome for him. I know he eventually wants to upgrade to a desktop, but doesn't have the funds to do so. I figure by the time his birthday rolls around in March I'll have the cash to put it together.

He would use it exclusively for gaming and the usual web browsing. It doesn't need to be high end, but I want it to be a nice upgrade from his crappy laptop and his XBOX One.

Here is the list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/OccamAsylum/saved/#view=pZtfrH

I will be adding a GTX 970 from my current build to this build. I plan on making some changes to my build so I figured it would be a great opportunity to recycle one of my GPUs. It will be a HUGE upgrade from what he's used to. As far as I'm aware, he would likely plug it into his TV, so there's no need for a monitor.

Location: Ohio (he is in Wisconsin.. haven't decided how I'm going to handle getting it to him) Budget: As close to $500 as possible

This is a good looking setup. Certainly better for future upgrading.
