For the Kaby Lake / Z270 release, MSI sent us their new Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon and an i5-7600K. Watch as we build with it in Thermaltake's Core P3 open / wall mountable case.

maybe you have a LGA1151 board that supports DDR3L. Sky lake supports DDR3L and DDR4 but afaik Kabylake only supports DDR4

PLEASE! What is the thing that allows them to rotate their GPU 90 degrees... I want that badly. If someone could link me the part for the Pcie adapter/ and or the mounting device i would be eternally grateful

This case includes brackets for mounting the GPU in the typical horizontal position or vertically as we did in the video. While it wasn't really planned, we've actually done two Thermaltake case builds with vertical mounts recently (this one and December's Feature build). Thermaltake sells a special PCI-Express Riser Extension Cable for taking advantage of this feature, but it won't do you any good on it's own if the case you select doesn't have a supporting bracket for vertical mounting.

Do those riser extension cables increase chances of performance loss or bottlenecking of any kind? I tried to do some research into it but the internet is a place of a terrifying amount of opinions... It seems like results imply there's little/no impact? Is that right?

As long as it's a shielded extension cable like the one we are using here, I wouldn't expect anything notable in performance changes.

Most of the concerns I've seen mentioned with risers/extension cables relate to poorly constructed or mishandled cables (harshly bent, etc) causing damage that makes the GPU act flaky and/or crash. In the two systems we've used these Thermaltake risers, we haven't seen any such issues, but we were also pretty careful to avoid tight bends or anything which might compromise the integrity of the cable.

Why not use velcro for cable management? Did that on my last build, much faster and cleaner IMO.

We mostly use zip ties as a mixture of preference and practicality. Velcro can certainly get the job done and it's nice when cases have those nice built-in velcro straps to help with the main bulk of cables (see the Fractal Design Define Mini C build for a great example of how it can sometimes make things really easy). It's also handy if you're changing components relatively often.

The downsides of going with velcro are that it adds a bit of thickness and is a much more visible when you are done. The visibility being more of an issue or the front of the case, while the thickness becomes an issue (depending on the depth available) on the backside of many cases. Zip ties can do some much tighter cable pulls for tight spaces.

That said, use what you are comfortable with and works in your build! Hopefully Barry's cable management videos give you some good ideas for how you might route things, regardless of your tie preference. :)

Some M.2-2280/Mobo combo's disable one of the 6Gb SATA ports, is that the case here? It doubt it will be an issue to most but useful to know.

Correct, each of the M.2 slots on this board share bandwidth with a corresponding 6GB SATA port that will be disabled if the M.2 slot is populated. (You should get an informational warning about this situation when adding the motherboard to your part list.)

I chose this as my first build. The only problem I seem to be having is that the monitor does not consistently get a signal. (HDMI to Graphics Card)

Most of the time when I turn on the computer, the monitor says no signal, but sometimes the monitor and the computer will work together without any issues.

Could this be a compatibility problem? The monitor I chose was an Acer H236HL.

Congrats on your first build! Though sorry to hear it's having issues. That does seem pretty odd. We did most of the bench tests on this system via HDMI without issue. Did you build it with or without the riser?

You might look for advice in the troubleshooting forum, as it could really be any number of things and that would be a better place to get help. (PM me the thread if you do and I'll chime in if I can be of help).

Thanks for your message! I saw what you said about the riser, which I included in the build, and decided to give it an inspection. Seeing that there were more than one slot to plug in the riser on the mother board, I plugged the riser in the second one from the top. After doing this, the machine had 3 consistent boots, which has not happened up until this point.

We installed it using a USB key. You can buy Windows 10 on USB, or just buy a license and create the bootable USB key yourself if you have a spare 4 or 8GB key laying around.

We created a guide on YouTube a while back you can use to see how it's done. It covers installing a media center setup as well, but the first part covers installing Windows 10 via USB.

You should, but just to be certain, check the specifications on your motherboard. That should be able to tell you what speeds are supported.

Asus TUF mobo.

i want to put 2800 or 3200 ddr4 ram. is it ok? just for confirmation for experts there..

So I have all these parts but I got a evga gtx 1080 sc instead.. It would randomly turn off on me sometimes and for some reason it won't even turn back on now... Can somebody please help me? I've had this for over a month now

Sorry to hear it's giving you trouble. Are you using the riser card like we did in the video or are you plugging the GPU in directly to the motherboard?

If you are using the riser, you might (very carefully as the riser cable is easily damaged if over-bent) try removing it and swapping out the PCI-E bracket that allows you to connect the GPU directly to the motherboard and see if the issue goes away. If the problem persists (or you were already directly connected), I'd recommend posting to the Troubleshooting forum to get more ideas for what might be happening.

Yep. The case, motherboard, CPU Cooler and PSU include the screws you'll need. You shouldn't need anything beyond what the components include.

What is your part list? This build had a Kaby Lake CPU (i5-7600K) and motherboard (Z270 platform), so there was no issue. If you're seeing that warning on your partlist, it sounds like you have a Z170 (or older) board selected.
