Description

This is an updated Version of my beloved PC, the previous build can be found here https://pcpartpicker.com/b/GCXH99 I have a full list of parts with some little reviews and rationale there so if you are interested check it out.

My little brother was due for some upgrades to his aging PC and since i got some money for christmas and yet again some pretty good deals on my graphics cards on ebay (bless this website) i handed him my RAM and my two GTX780s to replace his HD6870 which really wasn't up to the tasks for him anymore.

I got two GTX980s for 400€ each which is way below retail price (530€ and up) and it's a giant step up on my surround setup, don't have to compromise any settings even in the latest games.

RAM stayed at 16GB but was replaced with a 2x8 Kit in case i may need 32GB at some point.

Since the last build post i also acquired a significantly better camera so i hope you also enjoy the photos as much as i do. (i am getting a new bigger desk very soon so i can lift this gorgeous piece off the floor, just saying)

Noice! What LEDs are you using?

  • 1 point

Also do you game on all three monitors? What do you usually use them for?

  • 1 point

the leds are NZXT's led sleeve things. they provide a nice dim light and you can adjust the individual leds to highlight certain parts which is pretty handy compared to normal led strips. and yes i do game on them, i love having the extra field of view. but gaming on them is just a secondary use case, i'm kind of a multitasking junkie and since OS X (which i have on there too) has these amazing full screen apps you can swipe between 3 monitors is just amazing for productivity bc you can spread stuff out so much and still have an eye on everything

Thanks

Can you explain how you got OS X on it? (I'm assuming El Capitan?)

I think you need to copy an OS from a Mac

Say you aren't by chance from germany and could tell me where to get a 2nd 980 for that price?! ; )

  • 2 points

i am from germany, and ebay kleinanzeigen is your friend, wait til pascal launches and you will surely find some idiots selling their high end gpus for way less than their value just to get the latest generation : D

Got my first 980 via eBay for the same price and checking eBay plus KlAnz regularly. ; )

thank you, i stole the idea but it's indeed lovely. so many gaming components are black and red and i wanted something more sleek and elegant without getting the msi krait z97 board which lacked a lot of features and i/o for me so when i found this idea with just red accents i fell for it

Nice redo. It was still a powerhouse before, just more so now.

thank you and yes it was indeed, but when you have money and a reasonable excuse to upgrade then why not haha

True. I thought about triple monitors this morning sitting at my son's desk looking at the one screen. I wonder if if a 980ti or furyx would handle three nice screens. My personal comp. will be on a mini itx board :(......whenever I get my kids out of the house, or I just do it because I have the money. I tell my wife I'm waiting on getting the oldest out of college.

the two 780s i had have similar benchmark scores to a reference 980ti and are beaten by a fair bit by a single factory overclocked 980ti so since i could run almost all current shooter games (i mostly play shooters) like battlefield 4 and star wars battlefront on high to ultra settings with minimum 50fps you should be golden with a single 980ti

I was so angry when I saw this I thought you can make a username over jipster's beard, you can make an account about the dancing shark's refrigerator but NO ONE USES RADOX'S NAME. Then I looked at your profile ;-;

Lool thanks for keeping a lookout. Hahaha indeed was hit by the ban hammer :O lol. All good though, trying to get my old account rebuilt from the sever side was not easy so rather then add more work load just went and remade this one :)

Not a terrible thing I guess. Did lose the work on pictures with your builds though ;-; so beautiful.

I really need to update my build. I put in a GTX 950 and did some cable managing. I'm too busy playing games lol.

I like the set-up. Where is all the furniture from? I am guessing IKEA if you are european.

  • 1 point

yup guilty, paid 40€ for the desk plate and the legs, can't complain about ikea furniture haha. modular, cheap and clean all a good setup needs

Yeah it all goes together pretty well.

No 980Ti? Jk Great build! I wish I had the moolah to build my dream pc, but taking it one step at a time for now

  • 1 point

if i had to pay full retail price for this i wouldn't be able to afford it either i'm just a good hunter for deal. got the monitors during a no sales tax promotion (aka 19% off here), the gpus used on ebay, the mainboard was a returned one that lacked some accessories etc. i think i paid overall a good 20% less compared to new retail prices

  • 1 point

wow, that's a great deal, that's a good $500 saved! I actually got the GPU that I'm using right now off of CraigsList and it's better than the one that I was originally going to get, for half the price. 1 tier up for $50 dollars less

it's mazing yes ebay is hosting some craigslist kinda thing here in germany and that is where i got the cards from

If this is featured.... You all owe me a million bucks!

Ok, jokes aside, this is one crazy build. Love the orange/white colour scheme, and you did real good on your sleeved cables. Here is a GIGANTIC

+1

  • 1 point

and here is a gigantic thank you my dear sir, although i don't see any orange in my build apart from maybe the power button on the mainboard :') and i didn't sleeve the cables myself i just bought some bitfenix extensions since paying a hundred bucks for cablemod or corsair cable sets was too much

  • 1 point

I see. The orange on the motherboard really stood out and contrasted nicely with the white. No matter what you did with your cables, they look amazing. :)

  • 1 point

i wish gigabyte's audio pcb led liner would be less orange and more red, msi does a better job there : D credit although goes to Ed from techsource his Yeti build was the inspiration for the black and white with red accents colour scheme. and i can only recommend the bitfenix cables, for about 25 bucks you can really make your system look at least twice as high end fancy blingy

  • 1 point

lol, 'fancy blingy' :P

i mean in the end that's what it's about isn't it : D

More people need to use Noise Blocker Fans. I mean they are expensive, but dang they are fantastic. The new Swiftech coolers come with them actually.

Great build, and great pictures. +1

they indeed are, the performance to acoustics ratio is fantastic and they look gorgeous compared to other high end fans coughnoctua*cough

That's an awesome setup! The one I'm about to finish and post is pretty similar, I just decided to do a quick short term update before Broadwell-E comes out because my H100i pooped out and I had my new 980 waiting to go in.

Just a heads up, I've only had my H100i for about 2-3 years and it's pretty much given up the ghost, last night my computer shut down because CPU temps reached 94C. So, just some friendly advice from me to you, find a better AIO. I have a Swiftech H320-X2 coming.

  • 1 point

yeah i plan to go full custom loop as soon as i can afford it, so i'll get an EK predator 360 to start with soon. i used to have a corsair air 240 before i got this case and the h100i was my only decent option for a 240mm aio since swiftech units are still hard to get here and i really don't like their aesthetics tbh : D

  • 1 point

I also plan a custom loop. I want to do a dual loop setup, so I'll keep the H320-X2 on the CPU and then do a full EK loop for the GPUs, as they are the only ones that make blocks for the MSI Gaming series of cards. I'm not a huge fan of the Swiftech appearance, but they are the only one bringing copper/brass radiator expandable loops to the market with custom loop style waterblocks, not counting EK's new Predator 360. I managed to nab #10 of the NZXT Noctis 450 Midnight Blue, and I was having thermal issues back then, me thinking it was the case, I pulled my mini-ITX rig out of it's Bitfenix Prodigy and slapped it into Big Blue. It looked hella goofy with such a little board. Just stay tuned Friday night (02/19/2016), I should have it posted with it's full ATX update. ;)

  • 1 point

i am already excited : D i'm so glad for the predator, it's hard to mount a decent look pump and res in the h440 or noctis and even harder to tuck it away so having it integrated on a nice big 360 rad is exactly what those cases need. a 280 into the top and everything should be good

wow it looks like someone just got a small loan of a milion dollars. JK awsome build and setup mate :)

  • 1 point

thank you haha, trust me i made it look significantly more expensive than it is : D most stuff was second hand or bought during very good sales, overall i saved a good 30% compared to retail prices

What wall mount are you using?

  • 1 point

none, i have a triple monitor desk stand for 40 bucks from amazon. no clue how it's called it's some direct china wholesale stuff. it's pretty solid but the foot is so gigantic that it takes up half the depth of my desk so i will probably wall mount the monitors soon to free up space

Big UP!

Wow!! Great pics and gorgeous build. +1 for the cat also. Are you OCing your CPU? If so what clock speeds / voltage? Thanks.

thank you very much, i'm planning to wallmount the monitors since this desk is only 60cm/2ft in depth which is almost half taken up by the awfully large monitor stand so they're way too close to my face. i hope my ghetto modded vesa mount will survive this
