This rig is mostly used for music production and media consumption but, I also like to game as much as I can. I wanted a clean minimal look so purchased parts that balanced sleek aesthetics with adequate performance, although I made a few subtle modifications to get the look I was after, which is summed up by the following words. Server | Modern | Minimal | Industrial

Whether or not I was able to achieve any hints of this, I'm happy with the end result.

CPU

Intel Core i7-6700K 4 GHz Quad-Core Processor

Upgraded from the 2500k. Highly recommended to me so hey, if your going to upgrade then upgrade, It was not that much of a huge difference in price from the 6600k IMO. So far so good, not yet overclocked.

CPU Cooler

be quiet! Dark Rock 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler

Wanted a change from AIO. The best looking air cooler IMO and performs just as well as an AIO for less. I didn't really like the logo popping so much so, decided to mute it a bit to add to its industrial look. Super quiet too.

EDIT: I decided I don't not really like the look of the brushed metal so I sprayed it Matt Metallic to match the rest of the build. I also decided to make the logo look like it was stamped into the plate, than just a badge.

Thermal Compound

Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5 g Thermal Paste

Does what it says on the tin.

Motherboard

Asus Z170-WS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Got a great deal on this. So far so good. Had a few problems installing windows though.

Memory

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

Got these purely for aesthetic purposes. Does the job.

Storage

Corsair Force Series GT 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

OS install for now. Will upgrade to M.2

Video Card

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card

At the time I got tired of waiting for the 1080 to be available so went with the 1070 FTW. Happy with it but will be upgrading to the 1080 as I'm going to get a 4K monitor in preparation for Mass Effect: Andromeda and Tekken 7. I'm a graphics junky sue me.

Case

NZXT S340 Elite ATX Mid Tower Case

What can I say this is beautiful. Was 100% going to get the Enthoo Evolv until I found out about the Elite S340. It looks so clean, it reminds me of a server room while the matt black reminds me of a matt black Aventador.

Power Supply

Corsair 860 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Brought over from my previous build. Does the job.

Wireless Network Adapter

TP-Link TL-WDN4800 PCIe x1 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter

Was working as a graphic designer and doing game textures for fun so purchased this monitor a while ago. Will be upgrading to a 4k monitor for gaming and media purposes. Only thing I don't like is its not wall mountable.

Thanks! I thought about that but, like the way the ones I have make it look more "industrial" if I do Ill probably just get the 8 pin connectors for the GPU and leave the MB power cable as is :)

Thanks! Have not notice any difference while gaming. Its in a x16 Slot not x8. Besides I don't think there would be a huge performance decrease even if ran in x8 but you would have to run tests to be sure with your own GPU. But probably minute at best and hardly noticeable using 8 lanes.

Great build! Couple of questions:

  1. You used an alan wrench to take off the heatspreader to spray paint, right?

  2. How's the GPU? I wanted to get it, but I saw many reviews regarding coil whine and overheating, and to be honest, they're a bit discouraging.

  3. Are the front storage compartments big enough for an HDD, or does the HDD go in the back of the case?

  1. Yes an Alan key I believe it was 1.5mm.

  2. Haven't a bad thing to say about it, not everyone is having the heat issue. I also have no coil whine.

  3. The basement can hold 3 HDD, 2 HDD if you are going to put a SSD in the front window because of the cable that takes up the first HDD slot.

Just a thought. Where did you buy your FTW? I feel like if I purchase it straight from EVGA, I'll have a higher chance of receiving a good unit, than if I buy it from a retailer.

www.scan.co.uk Always purchased from them only because each time I wanted to purchase from EVGA, they never had the stock. Never had a problem with anything I've purchased from this site. Since the GTX 570 I've purchase all my GPU's from them.

Only thing is I find them sometimes to be a bit expensive compared to other retailers. Especially delivery.

Thanks. Yes, but depends in which orientation you put it, but in general I think its not a good look stuffing it into a small case like this. You're better off with an AIO if you want better cooling.

I asked be quiet about this and they said it was fine in this orientation. I also have been watching temps and they are perfectly fine. Also the temps are fine with the GPU in this slot. If I had a 3 way sli set up, the GPU would have to be that slot regardless.

My step-up is running out so have to upgrade to the 1080 now. But will sell when the ti comes out ;)
