Description

"Tears" because of all the trouble i went through to build this computer. it all started with selling my old gaming pc's parts on ebay. i was then left with only my ps4 to game on. i initially got an i5 4590 used, but when i powered on everything the pc did not post. i returned the processor and sent in the motherboard for RMA. i was told the motherboard was faulty and was sent another. i decided to just buy a new 4460 instead. when they came in, i powered everything on and got a white noise image on the screen with a crackling sound when using the HDMI port. i decided to compromise and just use the VGA one. THEN i sold my ps4, went through MULTIPLE issues with that. i was going to get a 1060, but the one i wanted sold out on jet, i was impatient and just got a 480. YAY for high temps! But after about a week I decided to return it and got a 1060 and now everything is butters.

Waiting for my displayport to hdmi cable to come so i can use the 2nd monitor. Threaded cable from Ensourced.

Part Reviews

CPU

Its only downside is that it struggles in cpu intensive open world games. The only game I play that's like that is black desert and I BARELY play it so this isn't anything crazy.

CPU Cooler

Bought open box off of Ebay. Looks dope.

Storage

Bought used off of Ebay. Ssds are new to me, enjoying the fast boots.

Video Card

Bought from jet.com. Amazing coming from an r7 260x.

Case

Garbage window. I cleaned it with a micro fiber cloth...then noticed all the catches I put on it. Contacted the fam over at NZXT and they sent me a new side panel, when all I needed was the window. I love the case for it's minimalist design.

Case Fan

I'm not sure, but I THINK these fans make the most noise in my case. I'm liking those lights though.

Monitor

I don't know much of the technical stuff about monitors, but i do know this monitor looks nice and my games look nice on it compared to other displays.

Mouse

No complaints. I like the RGB lighting.

Custom

Took me a while to find what keyboard I was going to get. Came across this. The blutooth function is gabage, but that's not what I bought it for. Loving it.

I would've gone with a 6400, same price and the latest platform

yea, at the time of buying the parts i didnt know anything about skylake and chose not to look into the processors. i just assumed that as new processors, anything near this price point would not be able to perform

6400 is clocked lower. Of the two, I think you're better off with the 4460.

While the 4460 is clocked higher than the 6400, the 6400 has skylake, so they're definately comparable.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I hadn't thought that there was enough IPC improvement between Haswell and Skylake to overcome a 500 MHz (15%) deficit, but after some quick benchmark lookups, it seems I was wrong.

or 6500 best value

The temps on most AMD cards can handle up to 65-75 degrees Celsius before they down clock themselves. And you might need a more aggressive fan speed and curve. Hope this helps :)

Also good work on the cables and case.

I plan on adding some sleeved cable extensions, I'll just upload the photos when I get them.

That'd look awesome in this pc!!

That cpu cooler is beyond sexy! +1 Why did you call it tears? Sounds so depressing!

I cried after reading this. You should put that up there!

One of the best things about the s340 is that its easy to just shove all the cables into a rats nest in the basement and no one will ever know xD I love that case. Good build man! +1

What temps have you been getting?

  • 1 point

the 480's temps while playing gta v will be in the 60s, rise of the tomb raider benchmark high 70s into 80s. idk if these temperatures are normal, but theyre pretty high.

I love the way that you were heading in this build but sadly I have to say that your memory and storage is equivalent to that of a Chromebook.

I have 2 500gb hdds in there. I just didn't add them to the list. As for the ram, it's fine is almost all of my games except rise of the Tomb raider. Almost all of my ram was being used. I do plan on getting more.

I respect that. Thanks for the explanation.

I've returned the graphics card in the list. Not sure what I'll be replacing it with. I'll update pics when I get it.

my only problems are in rise of the tomb raider and black dessert. ive gotten moderate to heavy frame drops in tomb raider, using afterburner i saw that the game was using over 6500mb of my ram and combined with everything else going on in the background, im sure all 8gb were being used. frames are above 60 and cpu usage doesnt get maxed. black dessert stutters and gets frame drops randomly without my cpu maxing out or any ram issues. i saw that others with better components than myself were having the same problem, so i dont think my hardware is the source. i dont really play any cpu intensive games, so everything else is butters.

Case is 161mm max clearance for cpu when cpu cooler is 162????????

the cooler fits perfectly fine. The cooler doesnt touch the window at all. The pcpartspicker list showed me the warning sign but I looked at other builds that had this same cooler in the s340 so i just went with it. The measurement NZXT gives for the case probably doesnt include the tolerance because i had no trouble fitting it inside the case.

Hey, I've been meaning to ask...does the T40Fit sits perfectly on the side panel window? because the T40Fit does not show up on the list whenever I choose the S340 case, the only thing that I can choose is the non-Fit version which is currently not available and more expensive than the fit.

yeah, it fits fine. doesnt touch the window.
