Description

PCPP feature #6... hotdawg! Thanks admins for noticing the hard work I put into this one. I'm sure the owner will be stoked to see his rig on the front page.

I use video primarily to show my craft. I was never a great writer (thus I became a builder) Check out the on going video build log here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg3z6hcUw1gr_X6vKX7sQXhQ14IMR9mnG

Long story short I wanted to created a full desktop platform inside a Pelican case, that would be shock proof, water resistant, light weight and strong. This was custom built for an enthuses who planned on frequent travel and upgrades. This person could have easily built their own PC but tasked me with the custom chassis and design concept to take a portable rig to the next level.

All in it took 2 months and 2 major re-designs till I found the correct recipe. The case is 100% as functional as you would expect a pelican case to be. No ports or vents are exposed once the case is sealed and secure. This is also standardized size to fit in an overhead on a plane.

Any questions just ask. I plan on building more like this if people are interested and the repeating build would go a lot quicker now that I've tested everything and know what I'm doing. Thanks for checking out the work!

Can't even begin to imagine the chaos if TSA opens this up at the airport haha

OllieManMan submitter 15 Builds 8 points 6 days ago

hopefully the EVGA and ASUS logos clue them in... Hopefully.

codezer0 3 Builds 1 point 4 days ago

You're giving TSA far too much credit. They locked down MCO for two hours when someone had tried to take their Titanium powerbook along as carry-on. It was dumb luck that the first officer on the scene was a seasoned Apple user, and had to clarify in front of everyone, what a dumbass the TSA was for the action.

I assume nothing of TSA's collective intelligence and i am still disappointed with the kind of crap they subject the ordinary passenger to.

I'm about halfway through watching your video log of this build and all I've gotta say is I hope you get featured. Loving the work you put into it, and I like the idea of having something durable and portable. That's right up my alley as well. You nailed it. Great work, man!

ALSO CONTAINS AMMO FOR A FEATURE

customgtp 24 Builds 2 points 11 days ago

Once again... Great and unique build +1 Should be a feature I think!!

TacoNinja 3 Builds 2 points 5 days ago

Even though it's not as small as other ITX cases, this is probably more mobile than any others due to its durability. No need to clear a spot in your vehicle to set it securely, you can (almost literally) just throw it in and go. Amazing job.

Gerryfire56 2 points 5 days ago

bruh tsa is going to think this is a bomb lol #gamerproblems

Mitlar 1 Build 1 point 11 days ago

What measures have you taken to prevent components to fall out, specifically the ram.

OllieManMan submitter 15 Builds 1 point 11 days ago

It was shipped with extra foam in that area. I was worried but asus is good stuff and when I tried yanking on the ram it was very locked in. I know that can happen and I kept that in mind. I think its good since the force would be pushing in into the socket not out from the bumps.

sword_infinity421 1 point 6 days ago

Wow, nice build, however, you should pick a 2070. Nevertheless, great build! Totally deserve the feature!

AdlerAdemov 1 point 6 days ago

Jesus Christ, this looks stunningly good, man. Your hard work definitely payed off. But i have some questions:

1.What's the size of the dampers (struts) you've used?

2.If the PC is working, is the case is supposed to be closed?

2.1. If the case is closed, how are you dealing with temperatures?

2.2. If the case is opened, is there a locking mechanism to keep the PC in one place?

It would be really strange if your client tries to open the case and the PC pops out like the April fools boxing glove with spring in a box.

3.Where are the input/outputs? On the inner chassis or on the back of the pelican case?

Once again, really awesome build!

OllieManMan submitter 15 Builds 1 point 5 days ago

1: I'm honestly not sure. I had these in my shop for a while before using them. Sry. something like 6in closed and 4in of travel. Amazon has then fairly well priced. I used pneumatic struts rather then hydraulics.

  1. Case has to be open while PC is in use. Closed seals it off completely for safe travel. When open, yes, there is a lock out you can see me build and use in the video.

  2. Outputs are on the top/side near the lockout.

RustyFire 1 point 5 days ago

how do you manage the thermals?

OllieManMan submitter 15 Builds 1 point 5 days ago

Thermals are great. It's essentially an open test frame.

RustyFire 1 point 5 days ago

oh, I get it. is it made so that the actual computer comes out of the pelican? and is not bolted into it?

OllieManMan submitter 15 Builds 1 point 5 days ago

Yup. It pops out so you can get at everything and have some air.

RustyFire 1 point 4 days ago

that's fricking amazing

PokeCatz 2 Builds 1 point 5 days ago

Wow, this is a really nice build. Thanks for sharing.

Lardybob 1 point 5 days ago

Whats funny about this is that pelican cases are usually more expensive than actual pc cases

EdSten 1 point 5 days ago

Amazing build! Thank you for sharing!
