Description

This is the first computer build I've done since 2004. I'm just getting my feet wet again with a "gaming" build. Ironically, the last game I played on a computer was Decent. I've never even played Doom, or Tomb Raider. Now that it's built, I'm going to try my hand at Fortnite and see what all the fuss is about.

Part Reviews

Motherboard

Great motherboard. Love the RGB. The BIOS is easy to use. If you are new to overclocking, stick with MSI.

Storage

Super fast. With the prices getting as low as they are now, there is no reason not to go with an NVME SSD.

Case

Amazingly easy to build in. Cable management was as easier than you would think for a build with 9 RGB fans. I highly recommend this case to anyone doing a first time build.

Case Fan

Very loud at full blast. But they move sooooo much air. Because I have 9 total in the build, I was able to set the fan curve for them to run between 400 to 600 RPM while the temperatures remain below 50 degrees (which they mostly do). I have them running at 1500 RPM if the CPU ever reaches 72 degrees (which it hasn't yet); And 2000 RPM if it ever reaches 85 degrees.

My computer now runs as quiet as a church mouse, and stays cool under a normal workload. I'll start overclocking, and benchmark testing next week. I may update this then.

Monitor

I purchased this monitor as an open box last year. It is the best monitor I’ve ever owned. I wish that they made a truly frameless version of this monitor. I would be tempted to buy four.

Custom

I didn't get to use this because it doesn't fit. The clip is upside down for most video cards. I wish they would have made it adjustable for the direction of the clip; OR offered different orientation options for purchase; OR been more clear about which cards this fits, and which ones it doesn't. Any one of those would have been nice.

It works well for me because I’m using a 1080P monitor. If I was at 1440 or 4K I would probably have to upgrade my GPU.
