Description

I've already had a relatively small case (CustomMod SFX AIO, 9.9L) but couldn't resist the urge to downsize, especially since I'll be travelling more frequently. I'll be limiting myself in terms of OC headroom and quietness, but portability is the priority right now.

CPU Delid (Stock):

  • P95 Blend: CPU>95C

  • Monster Hunter World: CPU 68C, GPU 80C

  • Idle: CPU 40C, GPU 60C

  • Cinebench R15 multicore: 1427

  • Superposition (1440UW Medium): 11148

CPU Delid+Undervolt (-0.075V Offset, MCE Disabled, Standard LLC), GPU Undervolt (-0.05V Offset):

  • P95 Blend: CPU 82C

  • Monster Hunter World: CPU 61C, GPU 72C

  • Idle: CPU 40C, GPU 56C

  • Cinebench R15 multicore: 1423

  • Superposition (1440UW Medium): 11144

The case is more difficult to build in than any other SFF cases I've seen and/or tried but I am really happy with the build quality and compactness of it.

Things I'll do/add in the future:

  • Replace PSU fan with Noctua NF-A4x9

  • Get a bigger SSD because the current one is filling up too fast. 2TB 660p is single sided and very well priced atm. This model's cache size helps to offset the cons of QLC. The EX950 is also well priced for how fast it is. Choosing between those two will basically be tradeoff of performance vs price/thermals.

  • Upgrade GPU when there's significant enough jump in performance and especially efficiency.

Thanks for dropping by and do share your thoughts of the build!

This is a small case, a lot smaller than my own Ncase M1. Pretty cool you managed to pack that much power in it. Awesome build. What is the case BTW? Looks like something Lazer3D would build.

The case is called ZS-A4S and I'm actually not sure what the brand/seller/shop name is. I bought it from Taobao.

+1 for insane amount of power in 5.5L case - Procrastinating over a Velka 3 build using my already delidded i7-8700k with an itx RTX 2070, again using the L9i, but wondering whether undervolting to attain manageable thermals is wise vs just going for a lower say i5-9600 instead? Your thoughts please.

I think the Velka 3 will run hotter than the case I used, but I'm not sure by how much. The ZS-A4s is vented on both top and bottom for exhaust, while on the Velka 3 it is basically blocked on one side by the PSU. Case temps will be higher as hot air recirculates.

Since you already have the 8700k delidded you probably could give it a try. If the temps are too high then you might want to swap it for an i5.
