Description

She's a beauty OC'd to 4.8 and stable and cool. Counterstrike running at over 300FPS on ultra/high Just Cause 3 max and ulta on everything and 60fps.

best thing is that GPU and water cooled CPU - 9 degrees idle and maxed out at 31 degrees under stress -- recon i could up the over clock a bit :-)

it was my first build and i'm happy with the final look and performance. not sure what to do next though :-)

Part Reviews

Thermal Compound

it's squidy silver stuff - ummmmmm yeah

Motherboard

was very easy to install and has a crackingly easy to use bios so happy days. nice to have the military grade components but i don't think i really need them.

seems bullet proof after a week or so now

Storage

boots windows - and seems very quick might get another one now.

Video Card

ummm just get one if you can - it's a freaking monster

Case Fan

you can polish a turd - i've proved it.

+1 for a lovely looking all AMD build, but I have to ask why the firestrike result shows an fx-6300 and your parts list shows an 8350?

good spot :-) all changed back. i'm thinking of already upgrading the CPU even though it's working really well and thats what i'll probably go with.

I don't think I'd bother going from a 4.8Ghz 6300 to something like an 8350 at this point - there's no guarantee you'll get anywhere near that speed with a new chip.

If I were you, I'd leave it as it is, that chip should perform fine alongside the r9 390, and just wait and save your money for the zen cpus to come out or something!

that sounds like a plan and it's so new i think i've just got the bug to want to change it because i can not because it needs it.

Quite the gpu to pair with such a cpu. I'm sure the processor is holding back some potential from your card, are you planning on upgrading cpu/motherboard soon?

In any case you'll want to check your temperatures, I've read AMD processors are known for giving inaccurate readings at low temps (unless you live in a freezing cold house, you can't possibly have 9°C, even at idle).

yeah that was my thoughts, i think and upgrade might be on the cards for the CPU but will give it a month and see what happens.

the temp is righht i've just added a picture to show you what it's doing right now. the things a little icecube!

What's the temperature in your room? If it's not 12°C or lower, you are sure the reading is wrong :) a simple liquid cooling solution can't cool a component under ambient temperature, so unless you are using liquid nitrogen that temperature must be wrong XD

I've put a new picture up with the AMD control center also saying very similar numbers with 56 degrees of thermal margin

I don't think it's worth upgrading to 8350 at this point in time for you. You have a very capable CPU when OC'd and that GPU is a beast.

Always nice to see an overclocked FX-CPU trying to push the limits. +1

i want to overclock the GPU next but it seems a more complicated job!

Nice build, great job on the AMD, How close to you get to using all that memory ?

i have already bought another 8gb which should arrive in the next 3 days and then i'll be a 16gb - i think that should be enough to cover the gaming.

I don't stream or video edit so i don't think i'll need any more - what do you recon?

I have a similar fx-6300/r9 390 build and am worried about the 6300 bottlenecking the 390, do you experience those issues?

When you say degrees do you mean celsius or fahrenheit?

i don't know and i'm slightly concerned it might be a problem. the CPU is never at 100% load when gaming but i think an upgrade might be a good idea.

what do you think?
