Description

I wanted to make a decent 1080p gaming build that's a little flashy and will last awhile. I don't really plan on upgrading from its current iteration for quite some time. I built this about a week ago unfortunately I haven't had time yet due to work to test it's capabilities. I bought everything either on Newegg or at Microcenter.

CPU -So far I've thrown a 2 hour skirmish match against a bot in Supreme Commander 2, played space hulk: death wing for an hour temps got up to. It handled the games like nothing, I think the CPU temp went from 27C idle to 35C while playing. Came in a bundle sale with the MB at Micro center.

CPU COOLER -This is an amazing heat-sink and fan, it's about the same size as the cooler master hyper 212 evo(what my brother is using) and keeps my CPU nearly chilly at idle. The RGB effect on this looks wonderful with the under-glow lighting up the motherboard and logo glowing bright. My only advice, mount the cooler before you mount the MB in the case.

THERMAL COMPOUND -I actually didn't end up using the IC Diamond compound because the CPU cooler came with Cryorig CP7 and it works great.

MOTHERBOARD -This is a nice MB, it was very easy to install. The BIOS is very user friendly. This was my first experience with a UEFI style BIOS, it is very nice.

RAM -Nothing special just 16GB(2X8GB) of DDR4. The reason I chose these specific ones was because the price of the individual ram cards dropped over night by almost 50% while the bundle of 2x8GB was still full price.

HARD-DRIVE -WD 2TB, what can I say it's a classic reliable HDD with enough storage for what I need.

EXTERNAL STORAGE -Great external hard-drive from WD, It's current full with movies and tv shows for when I'm not gaming.

GPU This is an amazing GPU, I've had 8 hour long gaming sessions on max settings with stellar results. The graphics are beautiful and smooth. While idle it was at 34C and while gaming it went up to 48C

POWER SUPPLY -I love semi-modular power supplies, they are the best of both worlds. I like the power switch on the back because even when you shut off the PC some of the lights(e.g. CPU cooler) will stay turned on. This gives me the option to completely turn it off for when I'm trying to sleep.

CASE -This case looks amazing, I knew I needed something with a side window the show off all my lights. I love the 5 LED fans it comes with, the control panel on top with all the USB and SD card ports, and very spacious (duh, full tower). One thing I need to work on is cable management.

OPTICAL DRIVE -I bought this CD/DVD drive for my old pc because I was doing a ton of disk gaming then, I figured since I still had it and there was a place for it in my case why not just continue using it.

NIC -Bought this after I completed this build when I realized I was unable to run a cable down to the router. It works great when playing games like PUBG, Rust, CS:GO.

OS -I have windows 8.1 on my laptop and had windows 7 on my old desktop. First time using windows 10 and so far it is pretty good, basically all the good stuff from windows 8 and 7 minus the crappy stuff.

MONITOR(S) -The 17" Dell was given to me for free by my mother-in-law, she picked it up at work when they were throwing a bunch out. It's not a bad monitor just small.

-Just bought the 22" ASUS while I was at Micro center getting the NIC, saw it was on sale for $99 and knew I had to get it. This ASUS monitor is beautiful. Perfect size and the resolution and detail looks great.

MOUSE AND KEYBOARD -I bought the mouse at a local military PX after I gave my old Logitech mouse to my wife. I really like the size of the G203, it fits comfortably and the RGB capability looks great with the rest of my build.

-The keyboard I got on clearance at Gamestop a few years back, I like it a lot, very comfortable and quiet.

UPS -Initially bought it for my XBone and TV. Since it isn't large enough for the power consumption of this pc I only have it plugged into the surge protector section

Other -I've only used the Steam controller on a couple games on my laptop and I loved it, as a console user it was very easy to get used to and the design fits comfortably in my hands. Can't wait to use it with this build.

-The Turtle beaches I am using are meant for Xbox but it's just a regular audio plug so I use them as headphones from time to time as well as when gaming on Xbox. They work great for this build.

I will definitely do a better review/detailed summary once I have time to really test this thing out.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

This is an amazing heat-sink and fan, keeps my CPU nearly chilly at idle. The RGB effect on this looks wonderful with the under-glow lighting up the motherboard and logo glowing bright on top. My only advice, mount the cooler before you mount the MB in the case.

Motherboard

Great motherboard and easy to work with.

Memory

Great ram, played rust while running youtube, and a monitoring tool for about 6 hours. I used up 12gb of the 16gb and experienced no slow down or anything like that.

Storage

Can't beat the classic blue(when it comes to HDDs)

Video Card

I love love love this GPU, I have thrown multiple games at max settings with a dual monitor setup and it hasn't overheated or slowed down in the slightest.

Case

This case looks amazing, I knew I needed something with a side window to show off all my lights. I love the 5 LED fans it comes with, the control panel on top with all the USB and SD card ports, and very spacious

Power Supply

I love semi-modular power supplies, they are the best of both worlds. I like the power switch on the back because even when you shut off the PC some of the lights(e.g. CPU cooler) will stay turned on. This gives me the option to completely turn it off for when I'm trying to sleep.

Optical Drive

Decent optical drive.

Operating System

Love this operating system, best of both windows 8 and 7 with almost no drawbacks.

Wireless Network Adapter

I am able to get decent internet speeds one floor up from the router. no lag when gaming online.

Monitor

Great monitor, does not disappoint. Found out it has speaker built into it, only down side is the monitor volume can't be controlled but you can just change that on the pc itself.

Keyboard

Very comfortable and quiet(compared to other keyboards). I work night shift so on my days off I game a lot at night while my significant other is sleeping. I have not disturbed her due to the keyboard noise.

Mouse

I really like the size of the G203, it fits comfortably and the RGB capability looks great

External Storage

nice and easy external storage device for movies and tv shows.

UPS

Only thing I don't like is the beeping noise it makes when the battery is turned on and there's a power surge. wish there was a way to turn that function off.

Custom

Comfortable and easy to use.

Custom

Good sound quality and comfortable for long gaming sessions.
