Who says HP's aren't fer gamin'.
This was a fun and challenging restoration project, but I am extremely happy with how it turned out.
I got the initial package on the cheap given its terrible condition, albeit functioning. Given a few upgrades and TLC I can confidently say that it is the best bang for buck system I have made to date. I upgraded the GPU, PSU, and storage as well as adding in an additional 8GB of DDR3. It took 4 weeks to clean every part for this thing! I also work full time, though, but was quite tedious to disassemble. I also gave it a nice subtle paint job that always helps my systems sell quicker, and I don't mind taking the time to bomb it.
I bought the GPU off of eBay on the cheap because it was a miner card. It was pretty dirty and the fan was very noisy. I disassembled all the way down to the fan unit and got handy with some WD-40. It's running much cooler and quieter now.
I was pretty happy with the mild overclocking performance results but it is certainly evident that the motherboard throttles the CPU in this case.
Let me know what you think about this system. Would you buy this system?
Used miner card for $100, a little TLC goes a long way. Best price:perf GPU in 2019 so far.
