This was my first PC build ever.
TL;DR Idk what screws looks like, Windows almost made me cry, my keyboard is AMAZING. I want to do some small upgrades in the next 6 months, and my girlfriend will be using my laptop for gaming because she has a lousy mac.
Note: Throughout the build my #1 issue was using the right screws (which apparently I suck at)
To start, the case is pretty cool, blue and black, with 2 LED fans. I really like the LED in the front. My only complaint is that the case does not have clearance for installing the mounting bracket for a liquid cooler on the back of the motherboard. Thankfully I had only installed a few screws when I noticed this. Mounting the water cooler wasn't really too bad after I got the motherboard remounted.
My next issue came with the wiring. Since this was my first build I was so worried about plugging everything in correctly. Thankfully with some help from a friend over video chat we were able to figure out where all the cords went. By some miracle everything was plugged in correctly on the first run, even the LEDs! My wire management isn't great, but hey the case closed so....
My last issue came when I got to installing windows. That was where life got real. I installed 8.1 Pro off of a flashdrive. When I installed windows everything seemed to running ok, so I started installing my drivers. Everything seemed fine when the drivers would ask for a restart, windows would shutdown, install, and reboot. Then I noticed that when my computer got turned off manually it would always reboot to BIOS. I thought this was just a setting I had messed up and intended to fix it later. I continued installing my drivers, when somehow my files started disappearing. Then every folder on my SSD, which was all that was plugged in at this point, started disappearing/throwing existence errors. I panicked! I had no idea what happened, so I decided to just reinstall windows again. I booted from the flashdrive again, deleted the old partition, and started the download. This time it worked, and here I am writing this, a week later.
I plan on using this machine as a personal gaming and developing machine. As I'm still enjoying the newness I have not gotten to any developing yet, but It runs games beautifully! I am able to Stream GTA5 at max detail, while running another game that I play, that is also CPU intensive at max detail. This is an amazing upgrade from my laptop, i7-3630QM @2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and GT 730M. it served me well but it was time for an upgrade. Streaming GTA and playing my game maxes my CPU out at about 80%. My GFX card is amazing as well.
I know the keyboard I got is pretty expensive, but I've been in love with it since I saw it in Best Buy a few years go. The mouse is nice. I don't use many mouse buttons for gaming so this one is perfect, and it fits my normal grip. I already had one monitor but it is the exact same one as the one I am buying. I had been plugging it into my laptop for a year.
The SSD has most of my applications plus gta on it, and the HDD has all my other games.
My 6 month goal is to get 2x8 more RAM and maybe a 3 or 4 TB HDD or maybe a larger SSD.
