Description

Hey everyone, I'd like to say thank you for the continued show of support And thank you for being a great community. I try to respond when I can to as many messages. But thanks again.

BUILT:1/1/13

EDIT: Just bought some leds.

I build this about a week ago .. been planing for this for 4-5 months and finally got everything

when everything finally came in i found out that one of the graphics cards was a mis-pick (different model than what I wanted) when I returned I they gave me free two day shipping, and it just came in today

me and my dad built a pc when I was 11, out of spare parts ( at the time my dads computer repair was helping us get by) ... but in 2009 he passed away ... and i wanted to dedicate this build to him, so building this at 15 would of made him proud

also people don't bug me about the power supply if it can handle two 670's overclocked and a overclocked i7 3770k to 4.4GHz its ok in my book

please comment good or bad, also i know the cable management isn't the best but.. oh well

For storage I use a 2tb seagate barracuda- $80

Apple sticker is not so beautiful...

coolman 94 points 52 months ago

What about allienware sticker, it sucks your money alive!

GeorgeBD 1 Build 6 points 47 months ago

Where is this?

coromd 20 points 45 months ago

There isn't an Alienware sticker on there anywhere in the pictures. There's a Razer logo, but no Alienware. Alienware=pretty nice PC's, but overpriced. Razer=really nice peripherals and systems, and a price to go with all of the features you get.

sharpworm41 2 points 2 months ago

image 9/9

siks6siks -6 points 39 months ago

It's the last pic.

GeorgeBD 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

There is an EVGA sticker, an Apple sticker, another EVGA sticker, an HTC sticker, and a Razer sticker. No alienware sticker whatsoever

XDestroyer -5 points 47 months ago

Well, judging by this build... it looks like he has all the money in the world haha.

yoyoyo109 11 points 46 months ago

I'm fixing to start up a build of my own, i'm not filthy rich but I see desktops like this as an investment that you need to spend money on so they last you as long as possible before obsolete

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 32 points 51 months ago

I have no hate against apple, my mom has a macbook 2012 retina and i love it for internet browsing but not for gaming

Araffa 4 points 7 months ago

I play CS-GO On my macbook air 2012 . Solid at 2k 60fps / 1080p 80fps high settings

JERZEP 1 point 22 months ago

I agree I like apple but only for productivity no gaming but there computers are not the worst for some light gaming

Chowderblue -5 points 9 months ago

lol apple is still bad for productivity. thing expires in 4 years (at best).

Hakumisoso 2 Builds -15 points 51 months ago

Incredibly overpriced. It serves it's purpose, just she could've gotten similar computer for less.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 12 points 51 months ago

i know but thats what she wanted :p

darkscout -7 points 51 months ago

Could you link to one? I haven't had a good time finding any laptop above 1080p. I'd really like a retina DPI in a 17" though.

JakeNShake121 3 points 35 months ago

Hey, maybe his dad had some sort of connection with apple and he just put the sticker on there as a symbol of his dad.

Coop2860 2 Builds -2 points 17 months ago

I have an Apple sticker slapped on the side panel of my Windows gaming PC. Why? Because kids think it's worth billions. That and the LEDs and the window, and the LCD in the drive bay. But still.

sffick 1 Build 80 points 57 months ago

It's great to have a reminder of good times in your life, and this set-up will last a very long time! Enjoy your accomplishment

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 10 points 57 months ago

thanks

IamApropos 3 Builds 50 points 57 months ago

First off, I'm very moved by your dedication of this build to your father. Thank you very, very much for sharing that with us. You did an amazing job, ;) even with Ultra brand PSU :P - I think you did great job and I really enjoyed seeing your pictures of the build. Once again thank you for sharing this. ~IamApropos

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 13 points 57 months ago

thanks

IamApropos 3 Builds 10 points 57 months ago

As you can see not only because you have a great build but people respect your dedication for your dad with this build, I don't think I've seen a build rank this high even on some amazing builds ;) you mentioned you have plans for a future build? I'd love to hear about that build hit me up on that link above if you'd like to talk shop.

ryanvoyles1 4 points 57 months ago

I saw on the PSU scale chart... thing... on the second or first level I think. The brand isn't too great but that one psu is good.

jfree232 32 points 57 months ago

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 5 points 57 months ago

thanks worked really hard on it

Apach3 3 Builds 2 points 57 months ago

i can't find any criticisms about the build itself; however, i'd like to hear your opinion on the Tiamat 7.1 headset. not very many people were happy with it, especially with the microphone. how do you like it?

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 57 months ago

Its ok i guess sound is good ,but you better have a decent sound card, but then again I haven't really tested it on a game

brandonmorgan1234 2 points 57 months ago

Very nice

Fuzsion 1 Build 2 points 57 months ago

Sorry for you're loss man, amazing build and very nice parts.

TheGamerator 1 Build 2 points 57 months ago

Nice build and the 600T is a great case :D. Sorry for your loss.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 57 months ago

It is a nice case, but some of the power cables were a little short

TheGamerator 1 Build 2 points 57 months ago

I had no problem with power cables. I used a Corsair PSU so maybe since they are the same company they made the cables fit with there normal cases. Which reminds me...I should upload my build soon. lol

Smily 2 points 57 months ago

Everything about this build is nice. iirc that is a tier 1 power supply.

johnwaskins 2 points 57 months ago

A sweet rig in any book, by any standard. Top notch components, top to bottom.

Although, for that budget, this could have been done with an LGA 2011.

Every component is amazing. Well, maybe except the Kingston memory, and PSU. But meh, with the build as awesome as this, that might not be very important overall.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 3 points 56 months ago

hey dont down the beast cause these things overclock like a boss got it to 1800mhz

Nice build

Renforth 2 points 56 months ago

Dedicating a beautiful computer. If he loved computers as much as I do, I'm sure he would've smiled ear to ear when he saw this.

that1personxx 2 points 56 months ago

Any thoughts on the BenQ? Is it worth the money?

Evshrug 2 points 55 months ago

I'm curious about this too, I've read great things about the BenQ from other sources.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 55 months ago

Yeah this monitor is a beast i have my PC and Xbox hooked to it and the 3d is awesome

Scottk2000 2 points 55 months ago

I am new to pc building still doing research before I start building and one question that this build brings up for me the noob is, I thought you only need one video card why is there two does that really make it go better?

Scottk2000 5 points 55 months ago

Nevermind I answered my own question, just had to go do a little more researching.

Winniedapoonbear 2 points 55 months ago

I'm almost in tears I wish I had this relationship with my dad.

This is the most sensational build I have ever witnessed in my entire life.......

gtmsnba13 2 points 55 months ago

Wow, for a first-time build you went all-out on the parts. And the cable management isn't half bad either. Great job.

ElloMello 2 points 55 months ago

purpletalon 2 points 52 months ago

wish i had as much money as these people as my computer really sucks.

Really2n2 2 points 52 months ago

This gave me feels, It's funny how my dad and I also built spare computers, and owns a computer repair store, but he's not dead, sorry for your lost and nice build though.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 4 points 52 months ago

thanks

mhoward48 2 points 52 months ago

Very nice to build your own. I like it you did it for your dad.Nice memory you have of building one together.

I worked for a large Semi-conductor company when my children were young. When my daughter was a teen, I tried to get her, to let me show her how to build her own computer, she would not comply, just not interested. I love my girl, but good thing she married a engineer from Microsoft, or she would be lost troubleshooting, and maintaining her rigs.

logan0 2 points 51 months ago

Haha, we have the same AC3 background!

ColdELITE 1 Build 2 points 51 months ago

Damn, nice build dude.

RamonWilliams84 2 points 51 months ago

You are awesome kid! Excuse me, young man... I lost my father 17 years ago the day after tomorrow so take it from me man, just continue to keep his tutelage with you always and strive to be the man he had hoped... Awesome build man, I'm impressed dude. Stay up

bennyboy968 2 points 50 months ago

It's a little pricey, this is for people with money to spend.

Hakumisoso 2 Builds 2 points 50 months ago

Wait wait wait, i am skeptical, in another build, you said you built your computer with your dad at the age 11. but in this build, you say 13.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

what are you talking about it says 11

Hakumisoso 2 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

Nice, you changed it. Or my eyes have gotten worse.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

well i didnt change it, maybe you just read it wrong idk

Rayyo 2 points 50 months ago

how did you decide to get liquid cooler versus noctua?

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 50 months ago

i liked the idea of having a water cooling system, and it run pretty cool

DontJudgeMeBro 2 points 50 months ago

This is really great!

TristynCraig 2 points 49 months ago

Simply beautiful. Hopefully I can get mine in and show off my prize :)

Piixlates 2 points 49 months ago

Nice build :D

SparkPlaysMC 2 points 48 months ago

You Sir, are a BOSS PERSON!

DDawg426 2 points 48 months ago

This is a very nice build, and I know your father would be very proud.

On a side note, what is that thing with the speakers under the monitor? A boombox?

devo456 2 points 48 months ago

I'm pretty new to creating a pc and i really don't know much about this kind of stuff. Does this build have wireless or wired internet connection? I'm thinking about buying this and i dont see anything on the list that connects it to the internet. Do I have to add something to it? Anyone who can answer this please respond.

mateuszr 2 points 48 months ago

I would assume wired because I don't see a Wi-Fi adapter in his pictures nor in his parts list.

devo456 2 points 48 months ago

So you're saying i don't need to buy anything extra to this build? Do i need to buy Storage?

mateuszr 2 points 48 months ago

I would say you want to ideally have a 1+ TB hard drive and some kind of SSD for Windows and some games.

devo456 2 points 48 months ago

So I'm going to have to add that to my cart to add to this build?

mateuszr 2 points 48 months ago

You don't have to (as SSD's can get REALLY expensive), but it's nice to have. As for the Wi-Fi adapter, if you plan on using wireless internet on your computer, then you do need an adapter, however, if you plan on using a wired connection (that is, via an ethernet cable), then you'll find a port for that on every motherboard.

Starlana 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

I'm sure your dad would be very proud of this; what you have done with those components and a lot of good 'ol fashioned effort. +1 from Starlana <3

CyberNerdNoah 2 points 48 months ago

wow you did it for ur dad!! i bet he is really really proud of u

Fonnz 2 points 47 months ago

LED is a bit to bright but anyways the build is great. Also the cable managing is shabby; try using some cable ties.

raf.roland 2 points 47 months ago

I absolutely love the corsair cases, they're the best bang for the buck and their tool-less design is so simple... just ordered a Corsair 200R for mself

HD7ames 1 Build 2 points 47 months ago

Dude not even going to lie even if this was not a good setup which is totally the opposite I still would of one uped it for the story behind it. But damn this is a nice setup.

PCModder 2 points 47 months ago

clean those cables! nice build; good hardware; but all I see is messy cables.

toro228 2 points 46 months ago

Nice build, wished I had money to buy the core parts.

Topdogjr 2 points 46 months ago

This could possibly run minesweeper on lowest setting at about 23-17 fps, very well indeed. lol

Amazing build though, some of the best parts packed in one beast machine!

srahulbose 2 points 45 months ago

Thank you for sharing :-)

Soarin 2 points 45 months ago

Very noice c::DAMNRIGHTISCNECSORJFTG:AERNFAGBvdf v

cecost 2 points 45 months ago

Looks great ... it'll be nice to have something both a) useful and b) commemorative for years. BTW, cable management is good enough ... there are diminishing returns to time spent on cable routing. You're there, plenty of airflow .. especially in light of the H100i cooling the CPU.

Zylos 2 points 45 months ago

Amazing build, highest amount of up votes on here. Have another one. +1 ; )

Stephni 2 points 45 months ago

D'aww..

Police5785 2 points 45 months ago

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 3 points 45 months ago

Wow, a salute to you sir. I'm 15 as well, and I'm trying to round up ~$400 to build a PC. The fact that you got $1500 at your age amazes me. And to dedicate it to your father, that's amazing. Great build, keep it up

jtrias21 4 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

Why does this build get 1K? Blows my mind.

Enlil 2 Builds 2 points 25 months ago

This is a great build, but I've definately seen more unique ones. Why is this ranked so high? I mean it's not like it is heavily modded or anything like that.

baltz 2 points 17 months ago

I don't understand how you went from "just getting by" to building a two grand pc at the age of fifteen.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

My dad passed right as my mother was able to get a better job to support us kids, and at the time I had a part time job with a farmer in the area, I was using the money to save up for it and when we had our financial situation ironed out. My mom pitched in the last couple hundred dollars for a birthday present. Trust me when I look back years later, the money I was saving could've gone to help out my family, but both my parents insisted for me to keep it saying that they wanted me to be able to save towards my goal.

Buy monitor which support 120 frames per second? Your freaking eyeballs can't even see 120 pictures per second >:(), unless you have god-like eyeballs.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 6 points 52 months ago

i for one do notice the diffrence in 60fps and 120fps the 120 is for 3d

coolman 2 points 52 months ago

I didn't know that, thanks for the reply, +1 for you. :-)

MarcG 1 point 51 months ago

You could remove some of the lower HDD racks to improve airflow. Other than that, REALLY great build.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 51 months ago

i did actually not to long ago... improved temps by a bit

DasSp0rk 1 point 50 months ago

is this a good computer for gaming and recording?

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 50 months ago

sometimes both

SeanM 1 Build 1 point 49 months ago

It's not bad. The mouse is a wireless (and I personally hate wireless mice for gaming), but no big deal. I wouldn't have gone for Home Premium, but, again, no big deal. Nice SLI 670s, and everything else looks great. 8GB of RAM is great now, but you'll obviously have to upgrade in two or so years to keep up.

Really a great system. As you said, the cable management isn't that good, but considering it's your first build it really doesn't matter right now. Fix it up when you can/want.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 49 months ago

i just re-did all my cables a few weeks ago and dusted it out and thanks for the comment

ixRAZORxi 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

Why is this so high ranked???

mateuszr 3 points 48 months ago

Oh I don't know.... maybe because his father died and he dedicated his computer to him?

But probably because of his cable management... that's fantastic

CAK3_1S_A_LI3 1 point 46 months ago

You only went to 4.4 ghz with that cooler? you can go up to 4.8+ with that...

Xephos1001 1 point 43 months ago

That is ART, and it just adds a WHOLE NEW LEVEL to building pc's and this website. You are true to this hobbie and I respect you to the highest level. May your father rest in piece.

toffbrown 1 point 36 months ago

this made me cry

rip_abbott 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Not to sound cruel, but I really don't see why this is rated this high... If you break it down it all just boils down to a story, which is cool, but this is a computer building community, so why are we ranking off of stories instead of builds? The hardware isn't all that well, at all, and lots of wasted $ on unnecessary parts. A $2,000 PC without a SSD boot drive. Parts list is lacking. Pictures aren't that good. Cable management with just stock cables is OK. Description is very lacking, and the story isn't even really there... No real customization compared to other builds that just trump and tower over this.
An apple sticker... :| Clocks aren't good at all. There are so many other builds that are way better balanced, better pictures, better explanations, better cable management, tons of customization, and have a fraction of the upvotes.
If this was on Imgur or Reddit I'd understand the upvotes, but this is a site about builds/stories, not just the story.

bloodroses75 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

I know it sounds harsh, but you do have a point there. Makes me feel bad for the next 3 builds below it where a ton more work and creativity was put into them, but got severely outvoted:

Heinz_Guderian 1 point 5 months ago

This build is kind of unbalanced in terms of GPUs,instead of SLI GTX 670 you should have gone for a better GPU (the GTX680 or 780 if keeping in mind your build is 4 years old) and NOT SLI them. SLI doesn't double your V-ram (It stays the same) or performance,It's just double the amount of money for better performance on some games The only reason I wouldSLI a graphics card is if I use multiple monitors at the same time (which I don't) You've probably already upgraded by now though.

Although it seems AMD is beginning to crawl out of the "Budget only" Area with that new A10-7870K that came out. Although I’m still new so maybe I’m wrong here.

In my opinion you should have gone with 1 780Ti because it is equal to 1 670 and costs less or get 2 and ski witch would be even better.

built before the 700 series came out

LeMonarque 3 Builds 6 points 39 months ago

You see a build with a 3770K and two 670s, and assume it was built after the 780 Ti was released? Dude.

Slam_Dragon -20 points 50 months ago

I'd have gone with dual 770's.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 9 points 50 months ago

This was built in January the 770's came out in may-june

The BenQ monitor makes me sick. It's too bad you paid that much for a monitor and it's probably the name that cost so much.

Dukex1011 submitter 3 Builds 12 points 49 months ago

I actually love this monitor and plan on saving up for 2 more, it has better colors than most TN panels and it has a matte screen which is helpful to me

Maybe he got it at a discount? Don't be too fast to criticize others' choices.

Halibel -29 points 46 months ago

You wasted so much money it physically makes me ill. I could buy a better processor for cheaper than your keyboard.

CosmicUnlimited 12 points 43 months ago

Give him a break. This was built over almost a year and a half ago. Put your money where your mouth is. I don't see you with any builds?
