Description

Some early context: This build actually has quite the story. It started when I was 12 (I'm 14 now), I was at my grandma's house and the neighborhood was having a recycling day and we could take stuff out of the "recycling pile" if we wanted to use it. I ended up finding an HP Slimline S5220Y with everything but RAM and a Hard Drive, I took it home and I already had a hard drive so I plugged that in, then I ordered the RAM. When that finally came, I plugged it in and installed Windows on it. Later I ordered a better case and an R7 240 (which was a bad idea but I didn't know) and started playing games on it. Fast forward past an i3 upgrade, the 380X, an i5 upgrade, and a bunch of cases and now we're here where I decided to do a platform upgrade. I was able to afford it from a combination of birthday/christmas money/gifts and repairing people's computers over the summer.

Now: I decided to get Ryzen because I do some video editing and occasionally stream, I also have a lot of things open at once. So multiple threads/cores seemed like a good idea, and AMD's new 6 core being world's cheaper than intel's while performing similarly was a no-brainer for me. The GPU may seem like an odd choice for this rig but I'm waiting to see what VEGA looks like, if it offers something similar to the 1070 at a lower price, I'm going for that. If it doesn't I'll probably pick up a Fury or Fury X (not because I'm a fanboy, my monitor has freesync).

It performs really well, I got a 1216cb score in cinebench and in mostly every game I play it gets 60+ fps on high settings, sometimes I'll need to turn the settings down or deal with lower fps in games like Fallout 4 or The Forest.

*Sorry for the bad pictures, phone had a smudge on the camera and I didn't notice it until now.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great processor for the price, especially for multithreaded tasks.

CPU Cooler

This cooler is great, my Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8GHz/1.24v maxes out at around 60c, and that's under extreme conditions. I would definitely recommend this over something like the Hyper 212 EVO.

Motherboard

Great price for the amount of features it has, my only problem with it is that my RAM won't run at it's full 3000MHz, although this is something that could be fixed with a BIOS update.

EDIT: A Beta BIOS from MSI fixed this, expect the full release soon.

Memory

It's good and rated fast for the price.

Storage

It's reliable, fast, and looks pretty nice too. Although there might be some better M.2 options out there now.

Case

It looks amazing and is great to build in, just requires some time to build.

Power Supply

Never had any problems, looks nice with the modular cables too.

Monitor

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYNC

I really like the grey/blue theam

KingBrandon 2 points 16 months ago

Pretty impressive if I do say so myself. I found it funny that we're using the exact same mouse when I was desperate to get anything(as long as it was big enough and didn't hurt).

sweet!

Gaming_Universe 2 points 16 months ago

did I hear freesync?

btw +1 I love blue themed builds.... if u can even call it that ._.

these boards dont do 3000 mhz they do 2933 and 3200, you can overclock it to 3200 if you bumb up the cas by 1 or 2, this will help it more then you'd think it would hurt it, with amd's infinity fabric stuff

Thanks for the tip! I'll try that later today.

This definitely look super beautiful I cannot wait for the day when I can pick up this case (two pets who constantly shed) the cooler looks fantastic. Hopefully vega is as good as they say then this build will be complete!

Does the Cyrorig H7 Cooler come with the AM4 bracket or do you have to order one?

ShadowTechXTS submitter 6 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

If you buy one now, it should come with one. Although if you've owned it for a while (like me) you can request a free upgrade kit.

UPDATE: MSI has beta BIOS versions that fix the RAM issues.

spenceroldman 1 point 8 months ago

Using the same RAM and MOBO as you, still showing 2133 after all BIOS/Driver updates. Any tips for getting the most out of this RAM?

Ragnell92 1 point 16 months ago

How'd you get the red led igpu indicator off? Did they finally release a bios update to allow it? Most pics I see of the board have that igpu led on since ryzen lacks integrated graphics and it always seems like an eyesore. Might get the board but Idk about the led

ShadowTechXTS submitter 6 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Just put Windows into sleep mode, and then wake it up.

I don't know why that works but it does, I'd love a BIOS update to disable it permanently though.

Sball 1 point 16 months ago

What fan are you using on the H7 cooler? It looks amazing.

ShadowTechXTS submitter 6 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

A ThermalTake Riing 120.

Sball 2 points 16 months ago

Thank you.

Nater650 1 point 14 months ago

I have that hard drive in my laptop

twf46 1 point 10 months ago

Could you provide the height of your RAM, and the clearance of your CPU cooler?

JMak00 1 Build 1 point 4 months ago

Hopefully you still get notifications of comments on this build. I am wondering, though, how did you attach the Riing fan to the Cryorig H7? It looks like the standard bracket just fit, is that correct? Thanks!

ShadowTechXTS submitter 6 Builds 2 points 4 months ago

I logged on just in time for this lol.

Yeah just use the standard fan brackets.

Vacuous?

ShadowTechXTS submitter 6 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Dude vacuous means:

having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless.
