Description

Dear PcPartPicker,

This build was an adventure.

Queue, purchasing this PC ... I turn it on and it says i7 000 in the task manager. Running on Windows 8 of all things, I say 'heck it, it's an i7 anyways, right'? Take a look at the GPU; ATI Radeon R5850. 'Okay, this thing is from like 2010 or something' ... Thing was pretty nasty, no wonder I got it so low. Caked in tar and dust. I talked it down and I bought it up, a little elbow grease has worked it wonders.

Queue a clean install of Windows 10, then of HwInfo64 ... 'Nice, it's an i7 965X!' ... I read on to learn it's C0 stepping which is very early Nehalem architecture. Boost clock of ~3.5GHz, well enough for this whopping 1000W beast of a PSU. I clean the entire thing and custom paint it. Cleaned the 5850 for my collection. Meanwhile, taking pictures all a long the way. Die shots, paint shots, powerwashing the chassis shots ... I even got the internals of the PSU ffs.

Well, thanks to my apparently aggressive RAM or CPU OC on my main Ryzen rig I experienced a corrupt OS from instability during update. I manually do all of my back-ups so not all of pictures were lost. The ones from this build the day before were gonzocya. I'm all good now.

Next, I buy the GPU for a great price on the Bay, thanks. Mining please stay away ... Seemed like the best decision aesthetic and performance wise as to not get bottlenecked by the 965X.

Lastly, the acrylic window mod was a last second decision since I had never done one before. I'm happy with how it turned out. The white window edging-grommet was a lucky find from my dad who works on boats and cars and I was looking for some black colored but this was too hard to pass up, plus he has more }:) Overall, it added an aesthetic appeal to this Fortnite Killaaaaa PC.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers,

Mr3Pik

I'm pretty sure owning a kitten boosts your PC's performance by 50 percent. Very nice!

Some elbow grease you say? There is a lot of work involved to restore all the parts to such a like-new state! Great deals, great finds, great build, great pics, bonus kitten pics!

I'm actually most amazed that you got the jigsaw through the acrylic without cracking it. Any pointers? Anyway, love this rebuild and the write up. +1

I had to get my dad to do the acrylic because of the same fear. He has years and years of XP. Fresh blade, slow cut, and I held it firmly in place as to not flop around.

Sold the PC. Got it from a friend of a friend who didn't really know better. To my credit the thing was absolutely disgusting.

Just how dirty it and unkept it was. Had to clean it top to bottom, inside and out.
