Description

The idea was to build a low budget replacement for my PS3. Yeah, about that.......

So like most things I do. I started off looking for a replacement for my PS3. My Son pointed me in the direction of PC gaming while I was just considering the PS4. He made his point. I figured I could do it on the cheap and well, I could if I didn't get so into the latest tech. One thing leads to another and......it turned into this. Yes, I could have spent a whole lot more, I know. I also could have spent a whole lot less too. Oh well, it was fun to build and even more to play with. Still more to do (more color coordinated cables, exterior cable management and overclocking) but then again, your never really done, are you?

Next up, my Son's build. Once Dad is ready to kick in the funds!

3/23/16: Added some Primochill anti-kink coils to the Corsair H115i lines just for the visual effect. They are not needed at all as the lines are braided.

Awesome build! +1 Where did you buy your graphics card? I have been looking for a retailer of that exact model and I cant find one. Thanks

I was lucky enough to find a reputable seller on eBay who was willing to accept my offer and that price included shipping.

Shot that idea to hell huh? I know you get started and just keep adding. You had the funds to get the good stuff and did fantastic. This is super nice and powerful.+1

When I was building I remember finding benchmarks stating that the 850 EVO m.2 was no faster than the 850 EVO SATA. You may want to consider swapping that for a 950 PRO.

I know it's faster but, we were talking ms. I didn't figure it was worth the extra dough. I am very happy though to have gone with a complete ssd system.

Oh snap, very nice. Would you be able to link me to where you bought your RAM kit? I'd totally appreciate it!

Ha! Yeah, so is he. Right now he's a poor college student and I made him a deal that he has to come up with half the money.

What fun is that? I want to see someone title a $5000+ build "My budget console killer"

It would be a console killer like using a grenade to kill a mouse.

Lol, if anyone called a $5,000 build "budget" , they're either Donald Trump or Bill Gates.

I find it kind of scary for somebody who is just beginning to build their computer to buy really expensive hardware..... One major mistake and they could be screwed.

Oh yeah. Flip side is if you buy all cheap hardware.

I definitely would not consider this "extreme" overkill. Overkill, yes, absolutely. But it wasn't only about performance, it was about aesthetics too. I wanted a show piece as well as a great performing machine. I feel as though I accomplished that.
