Description

This is just a basic backup computer that I made using most of my older, but still okay leftover computer parts. I ended up with so many fans and hard drives that I had to use the two extra stock power supplies that I had.

Part Reviews

CPU

Although the A8 is an older and slower processor, it still allows me to accomplish tasks quickly. I can run multiple programs and draw smaller design images for the websites that I design. I would never use this for a new PC.

CPU Cooler

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED fits with my other red LED fans and keeps my CPU temps really low even under load. It was super easy to install as well. A lot of people say this is a great cooler and it truly is.

Motherboard

The motherboard is a little old and featureless, only having two RAM slots and two PCIe x16 connectors but it does the job. The color is also a little bit bright for my taste. Haven't experienced any real problems with it so far.

Memory

Kingston HyperX Fury RAM has always been one of my go-to's. The 8 GB works fine for the duties of this computer, which is mostly downloading and working on smaller projects when my other PC is updating or busy compiling code. If I were to actually buy parts for this build, I would get one 8 GB stick so there is more room for upgrades later.

Storage

The WD 1.5 TB disk is my boot drive for Windows 10 and it has plenty of room for all of the programs that I have on this PC. I think I'm only using like 350 GB so far. Being a 5400 RPM drive it is a little slow at startup, but once it's running at operating speed programs open at an okay speed. Not as fast as an SSD, but good enough.

Storage

The Seagate 160 GB is a smaller drive, and at 7200 RPM the drive is fast for Ubuntu and allows me to get tasks done just a little faster.

Video Card

The GeForce 210 is not a gaming graphics card by any standings in 2019, but it allows me to run 2 HD monitors at 60 Hz which is fine for me. It also doesn't run very warm so my PC stays cool even in the summer.

Case

The Antec Three Hundred Two is a large case for the motherboard, but I had to use a larger case because I needed space for all the hard drive and power supplies. The case allows lots of room for components and mounting of HDDs or SSDs as well as wiring.

Power Supply

I used a stock Antec 350 W power supply that I had as well as another Antec 400 W power supply to power all the drives and fans because the motherboard didn't have a lot of fan headers. I needed the extra power supply because neither of them were modular and there was not enough wattage for just one small PSU.

Optical Drive

The two optical drives are overkill, but I just thought they would look nice in the drive trays on top. They are working fine for me so far.

Operating System

I have Windows 10 Pro so I can run virtual machines when I need them and it's compatible with all of the other software that I use as well as all my hardware.

Case Fan

Looks nice, are very good for the value and keep my PC cool even in the warm Canadian summers.

Case Fan

The other two Antec fans were stock fans that came with the case and they do their job, though they don't necessarily look good doing it.

Monitor

Allows me to get lots of stuff done and has good color and pixel response.

Keyboard

The mouse and keyboard came as a set for Logitech and work just fine productivity purposes and the wireless functionality keeps my desk clean.

Mouse

The mouse and keyboard came as a set for Logitech and work just fine productivity purposes and the wireless functionality keeps my desk clean. The mouse is a little small for my larger hands but other than that I have had no problems with it.

You should rename the build to double trouble for no particular reason, nice older budget build +1.

Haha - I did it. Good name suggestion BTW.
