PEGASUS v1.8 - Desk Upgrade

by P3GASUS_EXE

Description

I've been gradually upgrading my peripherals and desk. I feel happy enough to post an update on my build.

After v1.5 I purchased the following items:

  • Monitor: Added an extra Dell S2716DG
  • CPU Cooler: NZXT x62 Kraken
  • Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire
  • Mouse: Logitech G502
  • Microphone: Blue Yeti USB
  • Webcam: Logitech C920
  • Wireless Adapter: TP-Link Archer T9E 802.11ac
  • Desk: IKEA Linnmon desk and legs

Purchasing a proper desk allowed me to focus on cable management. After watching way too many YouTube videos on desk setups I learned a thing or two. For example, in order to hide the keyboard and mouse cables I drilled two holes in one of the table tops and used a hole grommet to cover the edges.

To keep the cables off the floor I went to IKEA and got a Signum rack which greatly simplified the cable management.

Adding the second monitor gave the build extra symmetry and much needed screen real-estate. Additionally, mounting them to a stand freed the desk and looks a lot cleaner.

Overall I'm very happy with the way the build is coming along and would definitely appreciate any comments/suggestions for future upgrades.

An absolute titan of a PC, I would want to upgrade the Power Supply to maybe a 80+ Gold or a Platinum. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous setup.

Good suggestion. I've been meaning to upgrade to a better PSU for some time. Any suggestions?

I would recommend the Corsair AX1500i, it's relatively pricey but for a 80+ Titanium and a 1500W PSU, it's okay.

If you're cut for money however, I'd go with SuperNOVA G2 750W (80+ Gold)

Maybe an audio upgrade in bound? A pair of audio engine a2+ or a5 would suit your clean aesthetic a lot. Also im sure there are bassier more gaming focused headphones on the market :D

Everything about this setup just exudes cleanliness. I feel like I would need nitrile gloves to touch it, for fear I would make it dirty! +1

May I know the size of your IKEA Linnmon? Is that 100cm or 120cm or 150cm each?

P3GASUS_EXE submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Both are 150 cm.

Looks perfect can I ask what desk it is?

P3GASUS_EXE submitter 3 Builds 1 point 12 months ago

I used two 59" Linnmon desks from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49932670/

Did you just use velcro straps to keep the wires neat behind the PC?

Love this setup - Quick question: can you comment on how the 1080ti handles two 144hz 1440p monitors? are there any stutters or issues outputting to both of the monitors? Love your build and setup. Very clean! Nice job +1

The 1080 Ti handles both monitors very well. At first I had problems with the second monitor but it turned out that it was an issue with the DisplayPort cable, I changed it and the problem was solved. I'm getting a third monitor soon and I'll update the build once this is done.

One caveat: The Asus Strix 1080 Ti only comes with 2 DisplayPort outputs and G-Sync only works on DisplayPort (not HDMI). Because of this, I won't be able to use G-Sync or run at 144 Hz on the third monitor which definitely defeats the purpose of buying these monitors.

To fix this I'll probably need to change the Strix card for one that has 3 DP outputs such as EVGA's FTW3: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=11G-P4-6696-KR

I thought about getting a second GTX 1080 Ti and using its ports as extra outputs for the third monitor, but as it turns out, unless you enable Nvidia Surround (which I don't want to) all the ports in the second card are disabled when SLI is activated, which again defeats the purpose of getting the card.

At this point my safest bet to keep the G-Sync functionality is to change the Strix for the FTW3.

Your build is gorgeous! I have the same monitor and I love it (only one though). I featured a photo of your desktop in this blog post... https://thehypnosisreview.com/best-computer-mic-hypnosis-asmr-podcasts/ Hope that's all cool with you! (you can let me know if it isn't)

Thanks! Of course it's fine. Awesome at having the same monitor. I love them so much that I upgraded to 3!

Forgive me my friend for I have sinned. I'm stealing your desk/cord management set-up ;) Headed to Ikea this weekend. However, any recommendation on picking out a monitor stand that does what yours does? Hides cords down the pole and orientates the displays in that way. I have two 24 inch displays..looks like that microcenter link below is outdated. Thanks!

Oh and what microphone stand is that? :)
