Description

First time builder! I decided to finally take the leap of faith and jump into the PC gaming world. Building this thing was definitely a roller coaster, but in the end I'm glad that I did it. Though I don't think my bank is... I got carried away and spent way more than I anticipated; oh well.

This is going to be primarily for gaming, but occasionally I'll do video editing as well.

The motherboard caused me the most headache, because apparently it doesn't recognize DisplayPort all the time and I almost tore my build apart trying to figure out why I wasn't getting any picture. After reading Amazon reviews on the mobo (haha) someone mentioned this issue and thanks to them I was able to finally get my rig working. Once I switched to HDMI, everything booted up perfectly and I was finally able to switch over to DisplayPort (to take advantage of my 144Hz monitor).

I've yet to play any demanding AAA games (aside from a few minutes in Ghost Recon Wildlands, free with the GTX 1080) but can't wait to! Glad to be a part of the club now!

NIce build! I like how clean your desk and cable management is. It would add to the look if you got sleeved cables

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thank you! Yeah I think I'll definitely end up getting white sleeved cables. I just got pretty anxious to build this thing so I used the stock ones. Maybe next paycheck!

MTHD 2 points 24 months ago

+1 for the build, wallpaper please?

GeekFlies 2 points 24 months ago

I want to know that too!

Very nice build! Looks just like my build. +1

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

You were definitely the inspiration for it! I just loved how gorgeous you made your build and couldn't help but follow suit. So thank you!

702Wolfi 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks! Your parts selection is excellent. I wanted the 7700K and the 1080, but my budget didn't allow it.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

My budget wasn't supposed to allow it either, but I got carried away. Your build will still handle like a beast though, don't worry!

AbsolutPstchio 2 points 24 months ago

This is one sexy build. I have scrolled through the pictures several times, just because it's so beautiful to look at. Wish I could +1 multiple times.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Haha thank you, I appreciate it!

bigbodyben 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Blackhat132 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

love the name man great looking build

BFJ_Tech 2 points 24 months ago

Great build! This will last you for many years, and looks like a great PC to overclock (if you had it in mind.) One suggestion I'll give you isn't about the build, but the keyboard/mouse wires. If you have a mechanical drill, put a hole a few feet in front of your keyboard and mousepad. Then, loop the wires through the hole and reconnect them to whatever is powering them. Trust me, it'll look like you have no wires on the top of your desk. +1.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Are there any good guides for overclocking (CPU+GPU)? I bought the unlocked hardware because I intended on overclocking eventually, but I haven't researched much about it yet.

That's a good idea! I really don't like how the cables look, I feel like they are ruining the image of my clean desk haha. Maybe I'll give that a go! Thank you!

BFJ_Tech 2 points 24 months ago

I used TechSource to learn how to overclock my GPU, but then I used Dan's Tech to overclock my CPU.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

I'll give those a look, thank you!!

montiago 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

So clean! And you aren't even using custom sleeved cables!! +1 Love your vegetation. I'm calling it Mitch.

Very clean, sleek yet powerful. Nice! +1

ysuhaas 2 points 24 months ago

Holy how did you get that monitor for $410?? Beautiful set up btw, +1

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

It was on sale and then there was a 10% coupon for it on Dell's website. That monitor goes on sale occasionally so I would definitely avoid paying full price for it! It's a fantastic one though, I love it!

Bladedrummer 4 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Very nice!

Zovonic 1 point 24 months ago

Hey, I was looking forwards to getting that same monitor but the 24" and I have some questions...

Are the colors fine?

And do your PC specs right now reach 144hz at 2k?

I really care about the colors though, did you have to calibrate it?

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Out of the box, the colors are pretty mediocre. But I just looked up color settings from other individuals and found one that worked best for me (happened to be from an Amazon review) and now it looks fantastic. I love this monitor a ton and would buy it again if I had to. Make sure to wait until it goes on sale though, which happens to be fairly often; don't pay full price for it.

I've only played one AAA game (Ghost Recon Wildlands) and the performance was pretty subpar, maybe because the game isn't optimized very well. I've watched YouTube videos from other people with the same set up and they also experienced low FPS.

I'm downloading The Witcher 3 right now so I'll see how that game performs! The only other games I have are old ones where I'm pretty sure I'd max out the FPS.

Zovonic 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks for the quick reply and the tips! After you download some more games, please keep me up-to-date with how it performs :)

I already built my first gaming PC right now and it's all getting shipped tomorrow but I have not picked out a monitor due to how difficult it is to find a monitor with a long lifespan while not breaking the bank...

For now, I'm thinking about getting the ASUS PB258Q but looking at the pictures you took and when I saw those colors it really got me thinking about dell again after I changed my mind yesterday...

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Well, if you really put colors as a priority then you might be better off just spending the extra money and getting an IPS panel. To me, this TN panel still looks really great, but I don't know if you have a better eye than I do. Monitors aren't upgraded as frequently as other things like graphics cards, so you want to make sure you're 100% on the one you commit to!

I couldn't pass this one up since it ticked all of my boxes: good size, 1440p, 144Hz, and GSync compatible.

Zovonic 1 point 24 months ago

Well, the Asus I picked out is an AH-IPS but it's only 60Hz do you think 60hz is bad considering I can get 144Hz?

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

It's really up to your own preference, but if you're trying to future-proof your set up then 144Hz might be worth it. But if you don't play games like shooters (where refresh rate is important), then it might not be worth it for you.

lnrd 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Wow man, so beautiful. Just posted my first build today as well.

I have the same monitor as well and was having the same displayport issue with the Z170X! HDMI did the trick to get things moving.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Yeah really frustrating how they still haven't addressed that issue. One of the few times I was able to boot into the system during my troubleshooting steps, I updated the BIOS with the QFlash and their latest patch still never fixed it.

How did you end up finding out about the HDMI solution? I was troubleshooting for like a good hour or two before I luckily stumbled upon that Amazon review which mentioned the workaround..

lnrd 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Wow, what! The 270 does not ship with a bios that accepts 7th gen? How were you able to fix?

I actually had an HDMI cable laying around, so I gave it the ol' guess and check.

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

The 270 does accept 7th gen out of the box, but I could rarely get into the BIOS because of the DisplayPort issue. I hadn't figured out that DP was the issue yet, so updating the BIOS was just one of my troubleshooting steps.

cloud1107 1 point 22 months ago

Gosh that looks so beautiful man. ive been deciding what case to get for my build. either this or the phanteks evol tg edition. im still holding out incase nzxt drop an glass edition for the H440!! Btw if i may ask, how is windows 10 Home treating you? Im considering buying myself windows 10 soon, but im not sure if I should get pro or get Home . Im mostly going to use my pc for gaming and c#developing/web development. Im so jelly of your build lol

slapFIVE submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Windows 10 Home should be fine for you, unless you really want Bitlocker then get the Pro version. I don't feel like I have been missing out on much with the Home version!

Thanks man, I really appreciate the comments!! Looking forward to seeing your next awesome build!!!

Neko2k9 1 point 21 months ago

Nice build! How does the 1080 Ti handle games with that Dell S2716DG Monitor btw? Hoping to pair both for a build in due time.

I'm too poor for this :'(. +1

Error_Unknown 1 point 10 months ago

Sorry for the late response but the Hitachi storage has been great! I haven't had any issues with it and the speeds are good! I still put all my important things on my SSD though. I appreciate the compliments!!!
