Description
About 7 months ago I was gaming and using 3ds max on an ancient gateway laptop with a sandy bridge pentium. That died eventually so I got something better. I picked up an i7 laptop for 200 bucks. I love that laptop but I wanted to get something amazing for gaming.
So I started buying parts. I got a gtx 950 first. Then a psu. I had a dell xps 420 with a core 2 quad and I was going to put my gpu and psu in that. But the processor was too old to run with the card and it severely bottlenecked it. So I went to a local pc shop to sell the dell for money. But the guy had an i7 4770k and a motherboard he would trade me for the dell. So I got rid of the dell. I also bought a case for 20 bucks.
I brought it home, but I found that the mobo was dead. I also wasn't sure if the cpu worked. So I bought a new mobo. When I got it, I found it was dead also. So I got a replacement and it worked. Then I got some ram off my uncle, bought a cooler, hard drive and an optical drive.
So I had all my parts and I was ready to build it. It was my first time building a computer. but, building it was fine. But putting windows on it was a pain. I couldn't get it to boot of my flash drive because of a setting in the bios. But after a couple days, I had it working fine. I still need to do some cable management though. Overall I love the PC I built.
Part Reviews
CPU
Love this cpu. Picked it up dirt cheap. Just an awesome processor. Might overclock sometime. I bought it used but the guy who had it said he had it to 4 ghz.
CPU Cooler
Decent cooler. I should have got something nicer for my build but it was cheap. Not made for an i7-4770k. In intel burn test running for 10 minutes, I got 83 celsius as my max temp.
Motherboard
Overall a good board with lots of features. First one arrived dead so I had to return it. Second one worked fine. There was a setting in the bios that didn't let me boot off a dvd or flashdrive. I think it was something that dealt with multi-core processors. Also has stupid placements for hd audio and fan headers.
Memory
Great for the price. I'll get a second stick eventually.
Storage
Fast ssd. Never had one before but I'm glad I got one. Boot time is 12 second from a cold startup. But for 15 buck more you can have an 850 evo which is faster.
Storage
Great price and plenty of storage. No complaints.
Video Card
Love this card. Runs gta v on high settings at 60fps. Overclocks well. I had it close 1500MHz core clock and 7500MHz memory clock. But I have no need to OC it. It runs fine stock.
Case
Got it used for 20 bucks. Spray painted it some too. hard to cable manage in it.
Optical Drive
I needed one because I still listen to cd's. This thing works fine.
Operating System
Bought a 25 dollar windows 7 key and upgraded to 10. It's windows. Not much to say. I like it better than windows 8.
Wireless Network Adapter
Cant get a good signal in my basement which is where my computer is at. Need better range. Upstairs it works alright. My 2005 wireless G adapter from 2005 has better range so I use it instead.
Mouse
Best mouse ever. Feels great in my hand. And only 27 bucks.
Headphones
I had this thing for years when I was a console peasant. This headset has been dropped stepped on and used almost constantly for 4 years. It broke in one spot but some electrical tape fixed that.
