Description

Not much to say. It is a PC for basic web browsing that will hopefully last 5+ years.

8gb of RAM listed but the second stick has not come in yet. Reason I didn't buy a 2x4 kit was because I already had one of the sticks so I just got another of the same thing for compatibility. Will update if I run into problems.

Really the only problems I had with the build were when I used the wrong screw for the motherboard and now a standoff is stuck to it, and needing to remove the Video Display Adapter(Calling this a GPU would be giving it to much credit) to plug in the front pael IO. And the MOBO only had 2 fan headers so I didn't plug in the rear 80mm fan included with the case.

Will upload more imagines once completely finished.

Part Reviews

CPU

Got this $40 after MIR at Micro Center almost a year ago. Just been sitting and is now in use.

Motherboard

Same story as the CPU. $10 after MIR.

Case

Surprised for how cheap it was. Wasn't hard to build in and didn't have random pieces of sharp metal to cut my hands. Not bad for the price.

Power Supply

Another thing I for cheap after an MIR.

Building computers for family members, what a good feeling huh. I enjoy seeing posts like this, people applying their skills to build creations for family members, friends, or as gifts. I await the future pics. +1

Great deal on all of the components. Can't go wrong with the price. Should work great for them.

Thanks. I just hope it lasts. I don't see why it wouldn't but their old PC randomly died(Probably from a crappy OEM PSU).

I built a pc like this a while back with an hd 5450, and it ended up failing as a basic web browser due to bad video playback performance in netflix and youtube. Did you have the same issue with this card?

No it works fine. That is odd though.

This is fantastic. It's been a year. I am wondering how it's doing? Still going? I don't see why not.

I last visited my grandparents in September and it was fine. And as far as I know there's change. The biggest thing in a system like this is an SSD. You don't much CPU power for something like this but yikes does a hard drive suck. The FX is really more than they need. But hey at the time I bought it the Athlon 200ge hadn't launched and the cheapest MOBO on Ryzen would have almost cost twice as much. But today, don't get an FX unless you get an 8 core + mobo for $30 or cheaper.

Terrible would be a bit of an stretch. If you can find them at the right price like I did they make really decent budget gaming chips. I have had the CPU, mobo and RAM for a while(Only 4g) and the games that I could play with only 4gb of RAM there was barely a difference between my 6600k. Granted those were titles like League of Legends and Rocket League. And I am sure if I tried running a game like Prey 2017 or ARK there would be a large difference. But the chips are not terrible. Around the performance of a first gen i7 or second gen i5 which hold well for light 1080p gaming.

But web browsing it is probably actually overkill.
