Description

This build is my Hackintosh OSX build, no longer in use as such

I wish I used this PC more often, it's a real nice machine, fast, silent and have OS X!! But most often when I go to the office it's to play a game, and one thing this PC can not do - gaming!

The only part of this build I had to actually pay for from new was the case, rest is reused from earlier builds.

The CPU cooler and motherboard is from a small HTPC I was toying with for a while, but it never became a success so don't expect to see a parts list on that. The 2.5" HDD is from my wife's laptop, when it got upgraded with SSD. The SFX PSU from an early NAS, another disaster build I'm not going to tell about. BD drive, CPU and RAM from the NODE builds (I know I put on the NODE builds it was 2x2GB, but it actually is 2x4, sorry dont want to go and correct it now), and the SSD been with me since my Mac Mini days.

I build a desk in my office, were this machine is hanging from underneath, attached with powerful magnets for easy movement, because I once in a while take the machine other places to be used.

What keyboard are you using here?

Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid-i with Cherry brown switches, white light and a white escape button, button bought from WASDKeyboards. Also put a red metal caps set on WASD from Caseking.de

Its a nice simple keyboard build to last

The keyboard, monitor, mouse, dac, speakers and headset are all shared between this computer and my gaming rig, kvm switches and multiple inputs. So those things are used a lot, its only the actual machine i rarely use because these days i mainly game. And gaming is not the strong point of either osx or build in graphics. But i like having the option

It actually works much better than i had hoped, no issues and my wife also uses the setup from time to time unsupervised

This is a nice little build! I like how you have it hanging under the desk also.

Did you do any "testing" before and after with the sound dampening foam? I have thought about adding some to my small Lian Li case and was curious if you felt it was worth it or not.

I never did any actual testing, I have very good cooling in the case no matter what so it was already near silent to begin with. The only thing i did notice is the slot in drive is dampened when in use, i guess because its really sandwitched in there with foam and all. Had the foam laying arround from my original Node build so did not cost me anything to add it here.

nice build but do you have any links to the monitor stand? and was the desk custom? and if not any links to that

The screen stand is barely visible in this picture, you have an eye for detail! Its a Vogels 2045 white monitor arm. https://www.vogels.com/en-ca/c/wall-2045-full-motion-tv-wall-mount-white#.WK27xjOkrYU

The table is build by me because i could not find one that had the features i wanted, its a long story... the end result turned out much better than expected
