Description

As the title states, this is my first ever PC build that'll be primarily for gaming but also for schoolwork and general usage. My computer before this was a 10+ year old machine that used a Intel core duo 2.4ghz 4gb of DDR2 RAM and a couple of old hard drives. In February I faced the blue screen of death due to the motherboard being old and now broken. After a few months with no action to repair it taking place I decided to replace the system with some money I saved and so after a couple months of research I ordered my parts and waited. In my new build I am using the old drives as well as my Gigabyte R7 360 from my old system while I await for the RX 580 I've pre-ordered off Amazon to be delivered which may take up to a month. It's been able to run the games I play with the dual core and with the Ryzen they're able to run at higher quality. I mostly play Total War games (warhammer in particular) as well as Rainbow Six Siege and a few others.

My first build was without error but with difficulty.

Update: The Rx 580 8gb pulse arrived at last and from Amazon for £102.50!!!

Part Reviews

CPU

Works great, much better than my previous but does run a bit hot with the stock for mine.

Motherboard

Like the neutral colour theme and have no problems or issues with it

Memory

Was able to get pretty cheap and runs at 2667mhz

Storage

My first SSD. Am not going back

Video Card

Much better than the R7 360 I had before! Runs quiet and cool with very good gaming performance!

Case

Good value. Not perfect as there are a few quirks with it but I like the look and it has all the features I need

Power Supply

7 year warranty, gold efficiency, fully modular, 550W. More than enough for my needs and like the silent eco mode.

I think you should install another intake fan. At load with only 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan Im pretty sure it wont be good. Also, it would introduce positive pressure reducing the dust buildup by pushing it out of all the holes in the case (ex- the holes in the expansion slot covers, etc)

That's a good tip there, I'll look into getting an additional case fan

Nice build!

I am building a computer, and have gotten a Ryzen 5, as well as an MSI B350 Motherboard. I just ordered the same RAM too, but am worried that there might be some issues with it as the description on Newegg says it is optimized for Intel? Did you have any issues with this RAM so far?

I had the same worries as you but don't worry, they're completely compatible and worked first time for me. It was downclocked to 2133mhz as with all kits and with XMP goes to 2667 instead of 2800 but the difference I don't think is noticeable. Hope you enjoy your build!

How did you get the RX 580 for 102.5 GBP? I did not even find prices close to that one when I bought mine (which was before the crypto craze).

There was an Amazon pre-order price guarantee. So I pre-ordered for £235 in August then the price dropped to £102 and I paid that price in November. I think me and a few others just got lucky there.
