Description

Finally made my dream gaming/photo editing rig by the end of 2019. From last 2 yrs, I have had a hardware changes: originally I have had i5-4690S, 16 GB ram, and GTX 760. Then I have changed things for fun: i3-6100, i7-6700T, i7-7700, i3-8100, i3-8350K, i5-8400, i5-8600, i5-9600K, and even Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 7 2700. Mobos were H310, B360, Z370 and AMD's B350 and B450. GPUS were primarily used (price question): GTX 970, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060 3 and 6 GB, and GTX 1070 for a little, which started to show troubles in OC case (aftermining edition of course), so I sold it out in order to not waste $$$ spent and got new RTX for many yrs of future now :) I play GTA Online, Far Cry 5/New Dawn, BF 1 (maybe 5 later), want to play Fallout 4 and Forza Horizon 4. Plans for the future: new monitor of course because this one is nice when I do photo editing (another task I do on this rig besides gaming and WWW-ing), but really bottleneck for my new sweety RTX 2070S :)

BTW, I have Gigabyte Z390 M mobo, but pcpartpicker has only Z390 M Gaming. Sad. Also, Logi speakers I have are white, here was only black color choice.

Playing on Trust Mecha keyboard. Dirt cheap and only disappoint compared to Razer SuperGammingOverpricedKeyboards is that Razer does have a soft wristpad.

UPGRADE 18.10.2019: PSU changed to Seasonic Prime Gold 750W. Seems I was very high opinion of Seasonic, and I dunno, RTX was unstable (core clock throttle to 1200 mhz!!!) due to power, msi afterburner bad "friendship" with Gigabyte cards (I have had troubles in past with 1060 G1 Gaming with MSIAB too!), or bad latest drivers. So I disabled AB control of card, and got better PSU. Wanted Plat, but Gold Prime was with crazy rebate, and somehow PCPARTPICKER tells that Prime Plat is incompatible with my case, so my choice was Focus Plat, which is still worse than Prime even Gold. So I'm happy now.

Dominator RAM is nice.. was nice. 16 GB (got it for 3200 speed) after 24 GB (I've changed Crucial 2x8 GB 2400 kit from my 7700 build + 8gb 2666 one) is pain in a...; it's like going from 3.5 litres V6 to 1.8 Turbo, if you understand.. :D So I got HyperX Fury 2x16 GB RGB kit. I thought of RAM redesign, so I got RGB. 3200 clock + RGB is crazy price, so I got 2666 one and sold Dom. Just put 2933 clock, and CL got auto 18, I'm ok with it. Lol, Noctua fan on CPU painted with black marker (I'm sick of cream color, sigh..). When laziness will go away, I'll finish paint job with another thinner one, but for now idc. :D

UPGRADE 26.10.2019: Case swapped with friend's Thermaltake C24 RGB Snow Edition. Friend left RGB fans to himself, idc I have Noctua's for power :) Fans put at full speed, this holy thing sounds like a server now, but as all fans are average ones, not cheapo, they don't annoy. Friend wanted mATX compactness, I wanted FLOW. Everyone is happy, huh :D

Part Reviews

CPU

Put it 24/7 all cores@4.1. (I care for temps but hate BIG coolers lol;) Crunches games as hell. Great for photo editing too. I don't see point of i9-9900K. If I had free $ for 9900K, I'd rather bought LGA2066 CPU for this sum. OVERPRICED CRAP. I don't need OC at least today, maybe later I'll swap for 9700K@4.7 GHz, who knows :)

CPU Cooler

SHAME, NOCTUA. Tried this one with 3.5K RPM fan from old HP SFF business box PC - holy sh.., now that's what I call FLOW. Original Noctua fan is for silence, but it has flow efficiency only for Pentium CPU. i7-8700@4.3 - 65 C on Noctua fan, ~57-60 C on 3.5K RPM OEM fan. LOL, Noctua. A little.. overprice here ;) Well, I took it for design, huh. :D

Thermal Compound

I use only this one for myself&close friends.

Storage

If someone will say that NVME loads Windows within same time frame as SATA, I will say that this human is blind. No offence.

Storage

Loads Windows just a little slower than good SATA SSD, loads games same as SSD...

Video Card

I don't see the point for paying ~$80-100 more for Strix just because Strix has USB-C and stupid useless BIOS switch button. Lol. Cools itself pretty good. If someone will say this thing is noisy, then this human haven't heard a server noise.. for example... lol.

Power Supply

Sexy and powerful - as all SS stuff. A MUST PSU brand for You high-performance rig.

Case Fan

The design of fan is as beautiful as airplane motor. Love it. But yeah, I hate color of sh.. okolate ;)

Case Fan

Bought this slim guy because previous mobo ASUS Strix B360 G had TOO LARGE VRM HS, so couldn't put standard fan there. Currently I have swapped the fans, but this one still does good on rear exhaust.

Case Fan

THANK YOU NOCTUA, FOR BLACK FAN. Lol. :)

Monitor

Holy glory IPS for photo edit. Not enough Hz for games. :)

Mouse

I don't need your Steelseries, Razers, or Sh...cat mice. This one is beloved from first gaming session. :D

Speakers

Well, I live in apartment, so there is no point for more power. Lol.

The only thing you're missing is a 144hz monitor, besides that you have an overkill beast.

Thank You! :) Yeah, but I think changing from 1080@60 to 1080@44 within same size (23-24") is money waste, EVEN I do know that 144 is waay better. Think I want something 27", not more not less, but for 27" 1080 is eye-blood because of PPI. So now I should save up to 27" WQHD@144, huh. :D

you could also get a 144hz/1080p monitor and just have a dual screen setup.

Also an option cuz I have VESA fix on wall, I've put it too high so it wasn't convinient to always watch the skies and I put the screen back to desk LOL

Absolutely YES. Wanted Strix, but the OVERprice told me STOP! Get something between Strix and Palit (sorry guys, no blame here lol). Thing is covered with 3yrs + 1 FREE(!) warranty, so this was no-brain. I got the deal, and what can I say - I'm really impressed. I was against Gigabyte, because once I got 1070 AM-edition (this is very special one, the letters tell you that it is AfterMining edition, preciously selected lol) which had killed fans with noise like there was died cockroaches inside them, so I thought that Gigabyte is just fkin scam. But this card is new from store, and no single problem... besides... my fault - my blind belief in my PSU. Seasonic, but 620W (when Nvidia reco is 650 for 2070S), and only s..tty Bronze. So sometimes I started to see card was heavily throttling, and PSU whistling lol. So I did an update and now have Seasonic (hardly I'd bought something other lol) Prime 750W Gold. Wanted Plat as I said, but Prime Plat should be bigger and no-no for my case (as PCPARTPICKER tells!), so I thought that I should be OK even with Gold one and got it. :)

Very nice build. And well spent for the performance that matters. So I might as well get down to talking about looks and presentation. I am actually really digging that unique thermatake case. Has a nice blend of understated design with some unique forms for visual interest. Reminds me of like premium office equipment if that makes any sense... Ahem anyhow I would like to see an image of the case interior so I can ridicule cable management ;) . I also think if you wanted to glam it up a little bit without looking tacky I would add a single ARGB strip to the inner top panel and sync it with the front lights. (that purple and white is a nice combo) the light would do a nice job bouncing off the mobo/components and displaying the hardware inside without being distracting by beaming light through the tinted panel directly. Just an idea as those glowing ram sticks seem a bit lonely in dark cave lol. for upgrades Ide say just the monitor, probably a good 2k high refresh rate one would be perfect.

Thanks! As I'm curious about power vs looks in case of fans, I currently plan to replace all it up with Noctuas. Today I'm adding one more simple Aerocool to the bottom front, just because I got it for free lol. But long-term I plan to get 2 more Noctuas one to replace this new Aerocool and one to back exhaust to replace that shtty slim Scytche (which I got for slim profile which I needed in my previous Carbide Series-88R case in Combo With Strix B360-F mobo, which has too bulky vrm heatsinks not allowing me to put standard fan in one place..) Currently I like green lights in front to get the looks of the big bad-a* server :D perfect combo with noise of all fans on 100%. Call me a maniac but I love sounds of QUALITY fans spinning, not those cheapo 5-dollar ones with their parasite noises. As about monitor I delayed the upgrade and spent free cash I had for new good psu and replacing ram 32 gb from my previous Dominator which was 16 (I see diff 3200 vs 2666 only in AIDA bench so idc really lol), but I plan Dell 60Hz but WQHD of course, and will choose between 24" and 27" ones...

Is your RAM being bottlenecked by your MoBo?

Memory Speed

DDR4-2133
DDR4-2400
DDR4-2666

vs

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200

Nope. Z series chipset allows to run RAM faster than CPU supports. This GB Z390 M is kinnda value edition, not perfect for CPU good OC. So I choosed it for RAM 3200 speed only. Because I don't want to spend another bag of $$$ for water-cooling to get 4.7+ GHz cooled properly. For now, as I stated, at least.
