Description

So firstly, the name’s Gr33zy! Twitch Channel here I just built this computer after planning it for some time. I was thinking about getting into streaming and doing some 4k gaming as well -- although for many games that aren't optimized well, I will run them at 1440p. This computer is primarily for gaming, streaming and I plan to do some video editing in the future. It will be a work in progress for some time. I will post updates when possible.

Originally, I started out with a $5,000 budget. I was looking to do a custom loop and paint job, the works. For now, I wasn't able to do any of the customization that I was wanting. This was supposed to become a Joker themed build but I will be changing that due to RGB problems with my Ram and I will be powder-coating the case in the future. I purchased everything on Amazon and had a pretty good time finding the cheapest possible alternatives. I bought refurbished and used items as reasonably as I could.

  • Sleeving the cables & cable management: I bought everything to sleeve my PSU, but upon starting the sleeving process, I soon realized that I don’t have the skill level required to do this. The EVGA SuperNova G2 was filled with capacitors and other things, making it near impossible for me to neatly sleeve these cables. So, unfortunately, I have to wait on this and purchase a different high-quality PSU in the future or just simply buy the 16G wire and necessary equipment to make my own cables, which is more likely what I will do. I was going to sleeve with an Acid Purple w/ black diamond Para-cord and an Emerald Green Para-cord. I didn't do everything I wanted to do and I did look past some areas for cleaner cable management, like that area right below the GPU. I will be re-doing all of the cable management once I am able to make my own cables for the entire PSU.

  • Water cooling: Originally I wanted to do a custom loop, but later it became a financial burden and I ended up purchasing the Ryzen 7 1800x bundled with a Corsair H110i. So far the H110i has been fine and kept my CPU temperatures pretty low. I have never water cooled in the past, so to me, these temperatures are amazing. Eventually, though, I will be purchasing from EKWB and will be doing a Purple liquid and PETG hard tubing.

For those items I could not do a normal Review of:

  • Corsair Gaming MM300 Anti-Fray Cloth Gaming Mouse Pad, Extended: This thing is AMAZING, super secure to the desk nice smooth high-quality feel, although it stunk pretty bad right out of the box lol.

  • Corsair K70 Rapid fire: This keyboard is amazing and I really love it. The extra keys that came with it though really, really sucked. I owned the K70 in 2014 and it seemed much higher quality. These keys seem like cheap plastic, although the feeling does grow on me. I HIGHLY recommend either buying regular K70 . The keys don't even make sense, the original came with WASD, 1-6 keys. This one gives you an extra W key, with F, Q etc.

  • Razer StarGazer: Firstly, IF YOU OWN A AMD CPU, the Background Removal DOES NOT WORK. That was the whole reason I bought this thing and was pretty pissed that I looked past the little detail that it will only work with Intel i6 processors or higher, not AMD processors. Overall the quality is pretty good though. I did get a 30-day TriDef Cam Program Trial, but it sucks a lot for Background removal and cuts in and out of showing me. So I will be purchasing a Green Chroma Backdrop to use for this feature instead. UPDATE: Firstly, IF YOU OWN A AMD CPU, the Background Removal DOES NOT WORK. • UPDATE: Returned this as well and I will be searching for a new Webcam setup, likely a Logitech C922x Pro

  • Logitech C922x Pro Webcam: This webcam is wonderful and I actually enjoy it more than the Stargazer; the cord isn't as high quality and it is permanently attached to the webcam, overall it is better and I have had much fewer problems on OBS, plus it came with 6 months of Xsplit, although I do prefer OBS; Xsplit made my green screen look like crap with their Chroma Key.

  • Blue Yeti (Blackout Edition): Well, this microphone is amazing! Although EXTREMELY sensitive to background noise. You can use the built-in Sound card with your headphones and also use the Microphone monitoring, although that can get annoying sometimes. But once you tweak with the Gain on the back and in your app, it isn't TOO sensitive and I would definitely recommend. I also recommend purchasing a Boom with this thing, as it picks up the tapping of the computer desk very much.

  • G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3000MHz [Replaced with Tri Z RGB 3200 CL16 Ram]: I wanted to give my problems with this Ram a more in-depth explanation. Originally they seemed to work fine, aside from not hitting 3000MHz. I was able to manage 2667MHz on this ram. The LED ended up breaking after a week and I returned this and bought the 3200MHz version. Before I go any further, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing the CL14 version prices $50 higher and not the CL16 version. Mostly due to compatibility. The Samsung chips play much better with AMD, otherwise, you will be stuck at 2993MHz until they fix this problem.

Update: I ended up just sending back those RAM, unfortunately, they just didn't cut it and the software for the RGB was killing my chips and causing lots of problems. Apparently, this is a common problem and I was going to switch to Corsair RGB but they were not on the compatibility list with my board. I opted out for the Red Corsair Vengeance Rams, even though, I will have to change my theme with those and I could have just gone with 16GB 4000MHz G.Skill Trident Z non-RGB ram, as that was compatible. If these have problems and don't work; I shall be getting the G.Skill versions instead and hopping back down to 16gb.

  • Sennheiser PC373d I will say, I absolutely love this headset and it has nothing to do with my affiliation with Sennheiser. Overall the sound that is delivered is amazing and I enjoy the Dolby surround that is installed. The headphones never have once in my months of using them, hurt the top of my head or left me with any sort of fatigue.

Usually, I have this problem from the top of headsets and the ear cuffs are bigger and do not squish my ears while also having a comfortable soft padding that leaves you forgetting they are even there. I really would recommend these and the only downfall to them is that they are the only USB, but if you are only using them on the PC that should not be a problem whatsoever.

To touch more into the sound, I have some $500+ on Sennheiser headphones, B&O Play H9s, etc and the sound quality doesn't compare to these headphones surprisingly. I don't really like the microphone that came installed on it as I use the Blue Yeti but it works just fine. The headphones also come with a separate level adjustment on the right ear cup that you can turn up and down in a circular motion, this doesn't affect the pc sound and this really was unknown to me when I had them for some time and I originally was upset that they were so quiet haha.

So don't make the same mistake as me and take advantage of that sound adjustment!

Thanks for reading! :)

Part Reviews

CPU

Well, so far it's been amazing! I was able to get a stable overclock up to 4.175GHz, although I personally keep it at 4.000-4.100GHZ. I am currently at 4.150 GHz at 1.400V. This CPU hasn't ever had a problem with the things I've thrown at it and have a significant amount of programs running without anything ever slowing down.

CPU Cooler

Well, I didn't get the GT, but I couldn't find the regular H110i, unless that's what it is, but my box doesn't say GT lol. This thing is amazing, even at max fan speeds, it's not really all that loud and so far my internal liquid temperature have been at about 26c.

Thermal Compound

As everybody knows, this stuff is amazing. Although I accidentally put a crap ton of this stuff on my CPU, but it didn't affect is negatively lol.

Motherboard

Well, I love the LEDs on this thing and that's why I chose this one over some of the others, I also really like the M2 Shield and how sturdy the RAM and GPU slots are with the Steel Shield. This board has had problems with my RAM though, but this is a known problem and they have been fixing this. The Leds will occasionally turn off on random parts of the mobo though, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Memory

This memory is pretty amazing and for those who are building a Ryzen Pc, They ARE Samsung B-Die. Going from the G.Skill Trident Z RGB memory, these do feel "cheaper". I do like the little piece that is removable on top; unfortunately the Ram would not fit if I didn't take them out, do to my Corsair H110i being in the way.

What I mean by feeling "cheaper" is that the G.Skill Trident Z had an obviously metal feeling, cold to touch and felt very high quality and sturdy. These on the other hand, I had to double check that they were not plastic, because that is exactly how they felt. But they are metal and performed better than my G.SKill, although I wish the LEDs had more customization like the G.Skill did.

Oh and also the plastic LED square on the Ram itself also scratched very easily and felt quite cheap compared to the G.Skill are well. Overall none of that was worth losing a star over and I am very happy with this product.

Storage

Wow... I've never had an SSD before this, but I am simply in awe how fast this thing is and how quickly things load. It blows my mind every time.

Storage

Well, what can you say, cheap and 3TB! What's not to love!

Video Card

Well, I should have held out a week and a half longer and bought the SC version, but overall I love this GPU and my 3DMark scores have been through the roof lol, scoring in the 98th percentile. I was able to get a stable overclock of +182 Core Clock and +300Memory. I have had one problem so far, but I'm not entirely sure if I have a problem with my GPU and should replace it or if it's just a current bug with one game I have. PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds crashes any time I play. I literally have to Underclock my GPU by 100-200 Core Clock for it to not crash. Not entirely sure why this fixes the problem, but it does. This card is a BEAST though! 4k gaming, is no joke.

Case

This was the first item to come in the mail and I was amazed at how high quality this thing is. For the price, what do you expect though. The Aluminum and steel feel so high quality. The tempered glass is always nice, although mine did come with a large piece broken off on the inner side, although it's not noticeable unless you take it off and look for it, knowing it's there. I have been contemplating contacting phanteks or amazon for a replacement of the tempered glass. I didn't really like the Fan Chip in the back though, I ended up not using it and later accidentally ripped one of the cords out of it -.- that was my bad though. I really enjoy the convenient cable management Velcro is comes with though.

Power Supply

Well, it's a wonderful Psu; it wasn't really what I was looking for though. Coming with complex cables that split and also are full of capacitors on one end. It made it impossible for what I wanted to do with it, so I will have to later make my own cables completely for this thing. Nice quality feel though, had it's own little bad for the PSU and for the cables, very nice.

Monitor

The first thing I noticed was, this thing is HUGE. Even though I am used to looking at my 55" TV and older 32" Monitor, this thing for some reason just seems gigantic. The base for the monitor is very big and extremely sturdy feeling. The one thing that did annoy me, was the area to plug the Display port and other cables into; it's hard to explain verbally but it goes up inside and has a long area covering around it, which makes it nearly impossible to plug things in while not looking. Your fingers will get lost trying to find plugs. The colors have been amazing so far, and I really enjoy how I am able to adjust the height and angle of the monitor. I will be buying another in the future.

Mouse

Does what it needs to do, had this mouse for a few years now with no problems.

Headphones

I will say, I absolutely love this headset and it has nothing to do with my affiliation with Sennheiser. Overall the sound that is delivered is amazing and I enjoy the Dolby surround that is installed. The headphones never have once in my months of using them, hurt the top of my head or left me with any sort of fatigue.

Usually, I have this problem from the top of headsets and the ear cuffs are bigger and do not squish my ears while also having a comfortable soft padding that leaves you forgetting they are even there. flipping your psu upside down will help lower your temps pretty well. and you should look into a monitor with more than 60hz. and not sure if you know but amd cpus work better the higher your ram speed is clocked.

Great build! Just one question though, How is that Ultrastar HDD? Fast? noisy? Just wondering

+1 for rgb

I haven't really noticed it much to be honest. I also have no programs downloaded on it, it's just there for edited video recordings to be saved; I have no complaints though! Works well so far, I don't hear any noise, although my fans could be blocking out that noise lol.

It's pretty good, it's fast and does what it's supposed to do haha.
