This build started about a year ago when I first purchased all of my necessary components at Microcenter (with some very appreciated help), I have been making frequent modifications and finally found it worthy to be posted on the pcpartpicker forums at the end of my junior year in high school. I completed the blue paint job a couple of months ago which includes the case, the cpu cooler/tubes, and both the graphics cards. I know you are wondering whether the paint raised my operating temperatures and I will have to tell you I did not see a difference at all. I previously had a single 970, an msi z97 pc mate, and just one hard drive. I eventually swapped motherboards for the z97 Sabertooth, acquired another G1 windforce, and a 250 gb Samsung ssd. I do plan to upgrade this summer and purchase a full EK waterloop for my system, I do realize I could just buy a gtx 1080 for the same performance, but I really wanted to fulfill my idea of a watercooled pc because this is my last computer I will make until I am out of college. I mostly use this system for gaming although I have worked with Autodesk Maya and Inventor, as well as Solidworks and Photoshop. I will give my opinion about the major components of my rig below. I appreciate all of the recommendations and support the pcpartpicker forums offer. Thank you.
Beast. I am glad I chose this chip for my first build because it is fast...super fast. I have also overclocked this chip to 5000 mhz although I keep it at 4000 mhz because I do not believe ramping up the voltage gives enough performance for the risk. The single threaded performance is amazing and it destroys anything I have to throw at it.
I have not have any problems with this motherboard other than the bios. When I turn my rig on and press delete to enter the bios, it freezes. I then have to turn the rig off and on again and it will then let me into the bios with ease. This board is known for its stability and ability to withstand different operating environments and I completely recommend this to anyone.
I have not experienced any problems with this ram whatsoever, it gives awesome performance and overclocks to 2133mhz.
Gigabyte G1 Windforce gtx 970 (sli) - Both of these cards have not had any problems with performance and sli works great. I have reached nearly 1600mhz on both cards when overclocking and I have seen a maximum temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.
