Description

I think my one year anniversary with this PC is coming up. I forgot the exact date for when I built it. So I decided to finally post it here. I built it in 2014 when I had little knowledge of PC components. I just went off basic guides and YouTube videos with basic knowledge of the actual components. Don't mine the messy cables, this case isn't the very good at all for cable management and I tried my best to clean it up

I could've done a lot better with this and the prices went down significantly a few weeks after I bought the parts and I only purchased from amazon, so the prices weren't the best (Look below for the original prices). I use this to game, record, and edit with on my YouTube channel (insert shameless plugin here) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCioLA1fdbPlxlegH5eqIILw and it performs well for what I need it for.

I have had some problems, but it was mostly just human error. It took me three hours and lots of trouble.

Thanks for reading

Part Reviews

CPU

Paid $120 for and would do it again. It is a great budget CPU for editing, rendering, multitasking and gaming. But the socket isn't my favorite.

Motherboard

Paid about $85 for it and I would've just bought the LE variant of it because I don't overclock and use all of it's features. But I like it a lot and don't regret the buy. The Bios is great and not so great, but I don't need the not so great part of it very much.

Memory

Not much to say about about this. Good stick of RAM, no problems, and looks great. Only problem is the price at the date of purchase

Storage

$75. Nothing bad to say about this, just it is very expensive for a terabyte of storage, but it is still going strong through it all and I'm hoping it stays that way for a few years longer.

Video Card

Love this card. Excellent cooler, looks really cool, and at the time, the budget card to get. Prime time and good performance per dollar at the time. Too bad that price was $200, and went down significantly soon after.

Case

This case appealed to my younger and easy to please with nice aesthetic mind. I just liked the blue glowy light, and three included fans. But because the cable management is not really there, it is narrower than I would like, and doesn't have the usual features other cases have in this price point. I won't recommend this to anyone, unless they get this for a cheap price.

Power Supply

Since buying this PSU (My second corsair PSU) I learned after of the cheap components in it, but I haven't had any problems yet, but I sometimes worry of it. I would've gone with an EVGA one instantly, but I went with this one regrettably.

Optical Drive

Cheap disc drive to install a few things, barely use it though except when I install windows and a driver after my many hard drive wipes. Just for convenience sake. Would recommend for the money.

Operating System

I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu Gnome, but use Windows a lot more, and I'm about to upgrade to windows 10 just because. I have no ill feeling towards windows 8 and would be willing to use it for awhile longer, but I wasn't particularly fond of some features, but it is completely usable.

The cable management is a "nightmare".

Definitely. If it has like a cm of space behind the motherboard

Thanks for he kind words, they mean a lot. And it's a beautiful case, just more beauty over function

And it's a beautiful case, just more beauty over function

That's unfortunate... I liked it.

Get a semi-modular, or fully modular, small cpu cooler, and LED's, and you have yourself a really nice case. Just no USB 2.0 unless NZXT sends you the USB 3.0 hub

Godzlegend1 1 point 45 months ago

Yea...... I just like the design probably will never buy the case.

cant believe the 80 bucks on ram

DSA_Echo_ submitter 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Yeah, it was when RAM was insanely expensive because of the manufactures

The cables make me feel like this: "AHHHHHH!"

However, great parts and cool case you have there! For the intended uses, I think it will work good. Thanks for sharing your build!

DSA_Echo_ submitter 1 Build 2 points 45 months ago

The case looks cool, just not all too cool with cables. And thanks

You picked an unfortunate time to build with all of the price drops in the following months, but for what you were given market-wise, it's a good build. The cable management wonky, but I'm assuming the case didn't leave much head room for hiding anything.

I just put my first build together a few months back. I was on a $400ish dollar budget, but had some spare parts. Nothing is more rewarding than customizing/building something yourself.

I just had fun picking and choosing the components to get the best bang for my buck.

DSA_Echo_ submitter 1 Build 2 points 45 months ago

Yep, I could't agree more. And you are really right with the case statement.

Atron 1 Build 0 points 45 months ago

I would advise that you change the stock cooler despite not overclocking it is loud and very inefficent and may even lower the life of the CPU

DSA_Echo_ submitter 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Yeah I probably will. But it doesn't get too hot under it currently, and I don't expect it to last that long till I replace it
