Description

So this is my second build. My first one was back in 09 with a quad core. Now in this build I'm using it for recording gaming and my own personal home theater. I will upload pics of my full setup, right now everything is messy. So far I have installed GTA IV and recorded at a stable 50-60 fps maxed at 1080p. I've rendered one video at 10m long at 1080p at 30fps and it took about 15 minutes or a little more.

Update 5/21/15

So its been a few months since I got this thing built. I cant be more happier with the performance of this beast. Games and Movies look so crisp on my 4k TV, it does really good under heavy load. Ive only had one blue screen and that was from GTA V with some bug problem but its fixed now. I can run any game out there MAXXED 1080p 60fps+, and run 4k at high/ultra at 50+ fps. I can not wait to buy my other 970 for SLI. If you guys want to check out some games from me on the beast check out my youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/drifter5064 So far I have one 4k video...my internet takes a beating trying to upload one so thats why I havnt really uploaded any.

Thanks for looking at my post

Part Reviews

CPU

So far im very impressed with stock cooling on this CPU under load. I cant wait to get the H100i to really put it to the test!

CPU Cooler

LOVE IT. Cant go wrong with this cpu cooler. Keeps the cpu cool under OC and load.

Motherboard

This board was only intended for the Optical out. Everything else on it was a bonus. The reason why I chose is only I support Asus and their products. So far im happy with this mobo....OH and I must say the BIOS is great for OC VERY user friendly!!!!

Memory

Who said 16gb is to much memory? Well I always prepare for the future and since I was going all out why not 16gb. Im happy with the performance and I see a difference in the speed of this ram. I came from 8gb ddr3 800mhz? to this and hands down I recommend it...also it goes great in different colors!

Storage

Its a SSD what else can I say. With windows 7 installed a reboot is like 5 sec. Sometimes I dont even see the ASUS logo and see the Windows logo for like 3 sec. GET ONE IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE!!!!!

Storage

Simple HDD. Deff faster than the Sata 2 :P

Video Card

So this card. My first card after a 500 series. I know right I was behind. So this card is pretty STEALTH if you ask me. When on idle like now the fans do not spin until I think its at 40c but im not 100% sure. This card makes no noise period and looks sexy. I will for sure put another in for SLI. Good job ASUS!!!

Case

At first I wanted a show case....then after I looked at some others that used this one and I just fell in love. I love how much space is in this thing and the cable management is GREAT. There is so much to say I cant say it all. If you ask me this is a show case and its worth it!!!

Power Supply

Well I havnt had any problems out of this PSU and id say its a good one. It came with many cables more than I needed and very easy to install.

Wireless Network Adapter

A network card is a network card to me. Works good.

Keyboard

For a cheap pack like this im happy with it. Very stylish and love the back lit keyboard. Only thing it needs its own light button.

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 2 points 50 months ago

coolguy562 2 Builds 3 points 50 months ago

Aaaaaahhhhh me too

DrumDealer 3 points 50 months ago

I just ordered my motherboard and we are supposed to have a snow storm also...it sucks :/

DougS2K 4 Builds 2 points 50 months ago

I ordered a bunch of parts for a new build a couple days ago and we got pummeled by snow today. Hoping it doesnt slow things up. lol

Shanevslife 3 points 50 months ago

Nice build! Would like to see a better description though. Still a +1 from me!

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 50 months ago

Yeah right now I dont have time to give a good detailed description...but I soon will

TaraByte 2 points 50 months ago

That's what I call a "Clean" build!

paintboy131 1 Build 2 points 50 months ago

bigg_critter 1 Build 2 points 50 months ago

HTK 2 points 50 months ago

Nice build man. Is the i5-4690K good for editing and rendering?

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 50 months ago

The rendering speed is insane. Once I get my H100i in ima OC to 4.0 and see if it makes a bigger change

HTK 2 points 50 months ago

Yeah, I'm trying to determine if I should go with i5 4690k and GeForce GTX 980 or i7 4790k with GeForce GTX 970.

I want to stream and edit.

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 50 months ago

i7 would be better for editing...only reason I got an i5 cause of budget but in all honesty I think the i5 4690k would work just as good.

woahwoahwilly 2 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

You are one of the very few of my kind, just because of thinking like that.

WinningPrism817 1 point 42 months ago

Ya no need to waste money unless that doesent matter to you

ryanp83 33 Builds 2 points 50 months ago

looks great, you are going to love having the H100i in there. I recommend getting a 2 pack of Corsair SP120 fans for your H100i; they are better than stock and the white rings would look sick in your build

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 50 months ago

I got the AF120 with LED. I seen many builds with the LED strip around the case and I wanted something different. So I got two AF120 white LED and will replace the stock ones. Im hoping the LED will shine down on the mobo and give it a clean look to it at night.

ryanp83 33 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

nice! I really like the white led fans, they have a certain "crisp" look to them

tomtom22 2 points 48 months ago

Great build for a great price, I love that case so much!

WinningPrism817 2 points 42 months ago

I wish i had money like this to spend. And i agree that an i 5 is plenty for gaming i havent had one myself but have used a laptop with integrated graphics and an i 5 and it ran on medium settings quite well

Stereotypical_Whale 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

There is something about this rig that makes it look so much better then a lot of colour matched rigs.

BingoFishy 1 point 50 months ago

I feel like you said lol too much. You said lol, like three times lol. I find lol very annoying.

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 50 months ago

Its odd how I did that. Thanks cause I read over it and it looked retarded.

BingoFishy 1 point 50 months ago

No prob! Lol!

woahwoahwilly 2 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

Ya said lol a fourth time!

DeatheadDG 1 point 48 months ago

Did you run in in a push config on your rad? Nice build btw +1

zoydberg 1 point 42 months ago

Is there any problem if I use the ASUS Z97-E/USB 3.1 instead of this motherboard?

OGbobbywilson21 1 point 39 months ago

Overall AMAZING build and i love the color choice. but one thing i noticed was that you chose to use af 120 fans on your rad. While sp fans work way better on radiators because they can push the air through the radiator much better. Also what monitor is that because im in the market for a better one right now.

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

I wanted them for the lights instead of leds...I didnt want it so bright that I would have to turn them off. I mean I havnt had any temp problems using them

woahwoahwilly 2 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

I wouldn't trust that power supply myself, but okay.

It's not all up there with Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, and those guys. It's not even on the sample checkbox list when you go to Choose A Power Supply.

But I guess it's okay?

overclocks and forgets that he's using a stock cooler

nabpwner submitter 1 Build 2 points 43 months ago

Doesn't read and thinks he knows what hes looking at. Maybe if you look closer you can see when I added the H100I
