Description

This is the personal rig of one of my friends, upgraded drastically. I actually didn't build this originally, but of course I am doing this. When I got it, it had a 6600k, h170 gaming 3, a hyper 212 LED, and a nasty assortment of case fans (including that red one I couldn't convince him to get rid of). The two complaints I was given were that recording/stream quality was potato and had a dated aesthetic. As for the stream quality, I could have easily picked up a 6700/7700, but I couldn't bring myself to pass up that sweet ryzen deal at microcenter. As for the aesthetic, I painted the red s340 parts, the gpu shroud, and the ram heat spreaders; and generally eliminated anything that wasn't black or white. Oh yeah, and the custom vinyl wraps.

There were a seemingly huge number of issues with the build. For example, the holes in the io sheild for the wifi antenna mounts on the motherboard weren't acutally punched out, which caused me to keep removing the motherboard to try to figure out what the hell was going on, which resulted in me scratching up the cable management bar with the solder points on the back of the board. Also, one of the 4 screws that held on the screw did not want to come out at all, in fact I actually had to end up dremeling the screw. The rest of the errors mainly stemmed from my utter lack of dexterity.

A question that I had and I'm sure a lot of other people might have stems from how that evga ram works with ryzen, and I am happy to report that it was perfectly happy at 3200mhz, despite showing up as "unidentified ddr4" in the bios.

Anyways, I think that this build turned out pretty good. Enjoy!

Part Reviews

CPU

God bless AMD and god bless capitalism. I will take all the cores I can get please!

Motherboard

Everything I could want and more from a motherboard for $120, except for an addressable rgb header. Not that it is really a big deal at all.

Memory

Legends say that EVGA is good at making a lot of things. Oh wait, it isn't just a legend.

Video Card

An open letter to MSI.

Why do you make your products red? The actual card is glorious but why on earth is it red? I know that some of the new products aren't as red, but that doesn't really excuse this. At least it gives me an excuse to paint it white.

Case

Lets have a come to Jesus moment. This case gets more scratched up than a professional cat bather, and anyone who has used this long term knows that it's true.

Also, this is the only modern case that I have ever built in that doesn't have a tool free HDD mount. C'mon NZXT...

I like the mods, especially the one when you got rid of the black and red from the MSI card

I am digging the designs especially the logos, that solid appearance is a good +1.

Without an oc it is sitting at ~60° on all cores during prime95. I would give you oc stats but the power supply is cutting off whenever I oc it (will report back).
