This was my first "custom" PC. I bought it back in 2010 for 400$ (good deal back in the days but I understood why later...) All 4 cores were stuck @ 800 Mhz and I didn't know why at the time (i knew almost nothing about PCs back then). I digged a little to find out this is an AM3 processor paired with an AM2/AM2+ motherboard and the CPU isn't officially supported by Asus, even with the lastest bios available. I've never managed to unleash the potential of the Phenom II X4 955 BE until December 2018 after spending hours and hours reading on forums and going through multiple bios, tuning programs like Nvidia Performance tool, AMD Overdrive, etc.. Finally found a thread on the M2N-SLI Club explaining you need a program called MSR Phenom Tweaker to unlock all the cores if you are using an AM2 board and... IT WORKED ! I just can't explain how happy I was when I saw the CPU was finally running @ 3200Mhz on CPU-Z.
The rebuild process: ►Replaced the rear cheap stock 80mm exhaust fan for a Thermaltake Luna 12 120mm blue led. ►Installed a 240GB Adata SSD and formated. ►Kept WD Blue 500GB HDD as secondary drive. ►Replaced the stock AMD heatsink by a Deepcool Gammaxx 400 CPU cooler. ►Overclocked to 3.7Ghz ►Relocated the Antec 80mm fan as a front intake (originally on the side panel)
I gave it to my cousin for christmas 2018 since he wanted a new gaming PC but he was on a budget. He only play CSGO so this PC will be decent for that. I did some test and CSGO runs 150-250 fps. Needless to say how impressed I am, this CPU is still going strong even after 10 years !
Happy holidays :)
This 4-core is still going strong ! Black Edition has an unlocked multiplier, making it easy to overclock.
Great upgrade to my AMD stock heatsink. It's silent, 1400 rpm + has blue led, gucci !
It is the highest rated Ram my AM2 board can handle. It might be old but it works like a charm.
Bought this SSD on Black Friday, perfect upgrade for my old PC.
Perfect for storage, if 500 GB is enough for your need.
Still going strong for an old GPU, impressive !
Old case but still looking good !
I have another 750W Thermaltake PSU but couldn't find it. It's not semi-modular but has black sleeved cables.
Silent good looking fan, slim, blue led. 9/10 !
I have the ASUS M2N-SLI (mine is not deluxe). Bios is easy to use even if it's old, good overclock capabilities.
