!! FOR SALE !!

I was tired of my old, big and loud desktop PC. I decided to replace it with something smaller. After a short date with gaming laptops, which turned out to be hotter and louder, I built something based on the mini itx platform.

Currently, this is my main software development machine. Everything works great, except the Cryorig CPU cooler.

UPDATE: Really funny. Changed to Cryorig H7 and finally - absolutely silent on idle/light work and much more quieter under full load. The strangest thing is that CPU temps dropped by 3-4 degrees C on idle and full load with 7700k. The only advantage of H5 Universal is the build quality and better look.

UPDATE 2: After 30 minutes of stressing with Prime95 + Furmark, CPU reached 78°C max, GPU 67°C max. IMO not bad.

UPDATE 3: Using SPL Meter app, I've measured the noise level of whole rig. Phone was placed 10cm from the case window. With the computer completely off, application showed 31.7-31.8dB. With PC on idle, app showed 31.9-32.0dB. Not bad, right?

Part Reviews

CPU

Hard to say anything. Absolute performance.

CPU Cooler

Looks great, but I have problem with a loud fan (bearing sound). Ordered XT140 fan as replacement and you know what? The same issue. Really disappointed. As for the CPU temps I thought it would be better. This is the loudest part in my build. I would definitely not recommend this CPU cooler.

Motherboard

Lots of USB ports on the back panel. Two M.2 ports. Front mounted M.2 960 EVO has a few degrees less without heatsink. Great fan control.

UPDATE: Changed rating from 5 to 4 because of 2 things: 1) Did not realize there is no USB 2.0 header, so you cannot connect most of fancy AIO or Air coolers. 2) Last BIOS update (812) causes system instability.

Memory

Nothing special. It just works :)

Storage

Blazing fast but also little hot. About 45-51'C on idle.

Video Card

Enough for my needs. Definitely faster than GTX 1060 in gaming laptops. Great cooling, inaudible up to about 50 degrees. A little loud under full load.

Case

Amazing case. Great look and build quality. However, if you are building an absolutely silent PC, choose windowless variant.

Power Supply

Great power supply. Hearable only under full load.

Case Fan

Completely inaudiable. I can barely hear it even with my ear close to the fan.

This is super sexy man, penny for your thoughts on the Cryorig cooler?

Looks good. That's to bad about the fan, maybe they have a bad batch in their inventory ?. I almost bought this cooler to replace my H7. What's your next move ?

Second XT140 fan ordered from different store, so really don't know. I am very surprised because there are so many good reviews about this cooler.

My next move? Don't know yet. I'm considering:

Air coolers

  • Cryorig H7 or H7 quad lumi. Maybe the fan is better?

  • be quiet! Dark Rock 3

  • Scythe Mugen 5 but I have mixed feelings about how the cooler looks

AIO liquid cooler but due to the length of the GPU I'm looking only at 120mm coolers. Of course I can remove the front dust filter and put 240mm cooler, or just put it on top but I really do not like such solution.

  • Arctic Liquid Freezer 120

  • be quiet! Silent Loop 120

  • NZXT Kraken X42 but little pricy

  • Corsair H60 or H80i but I read it's a bit loud

What clock and voltage have you set your CPU at? What's the temp from that under load ?

I replaced my Cryorig H7 to a Noctua NH-U12S with the black iPPC fans in my nano s. Reason I did was because the H7 is a pain to install, especially for me. The h5 is simpler to install over the H7 too, that's why I considered it.

The only difference between the ultimate h5 and yours is the color and the fan. If you get another 120mm fan it will have to sit over your ram and be flush with the window. Same for the Dark Rock 3. That's why some people have the dark rock 3 with the fan on the other side - that personally drives me crazy lol.

So H7 would work, its just a pain to install. Love my the U12S, but if you have an unsually hot card the NH-D15S will work too, but if you cant stomach the noctua color scheme you will have to buy their iPPC fans or another brand separately.

After replacing the H5 Universal with cheaper H7, temperatures and noise dropped. With 30 minutes of Prime95 + Furmark, CPU reached 78°C and GPU 67°C (max temps), VID 1.22v.

Post some pics ! Glad you got some better numbers.

What's clock speed and what did you set your vcore too for the CPU ?

Voltage is set to automatic in bios. Running at 4.5GHz.

So basically I'm not happy with the CPU temps and Cryorig cooler noise. Any suggestions on the new CPU cooler? Currently have not plans to overclock, so it should be good looking and quiet. I was thinking about the Kraken X42 but the Strix Z270i mobo does not have a USB 2.0 header to play CAM software.
