Description

*UPDATED 9/9/2017

What's New:
-Removed Cryorig H7
-Added EVGA CLC 280
-Removed MSI RX 480 8GB (Yay crytocurrency fever)
-Added Aorus GTX 1070 8GB

So this has some new and old components in it, but figured I'd show it off for anyone one looking into upgrading and wanting an idea.
Was given the Phanteks P400s case as a birthday present which kind of started off wanting "more" so I upgraded my GPU from a Sapphire 6970HD to a MSI RX 480 8GB Gaming X, got rid of the stock AMD FX 6100 Cooler (It was hitting 50-60c under load-gaming which worried me greatly) and placed in the Cryorig H7 which fits NICELY. My friend has the same case with the Evo 212 and it ALMOST touches the side panel. The Cryorig gives you a bit more breathing room in that sense and keeps the CPU in the 20-25c range on idle and I've never seen it cross 40c under load (again, gaming).
I dropped in two Phanteks RGB LED strips (400mm) which are awesome, but can be a pain as the magnets in the strip aren't that strong. I also bought Arctic F12PWM fans (the combo pack) to go ahead and get more air flowing through. I have the top 2 fans as exhaust along with the back, and have 3 intake fans (1 is a Phanteks fan that came with the case and I now have a spare Phanteks fan as back up). The Arctic fans have been nice to me considering they're "cheap" but the same friend that has the same case as me (mentioned above) hasn't had the same luck with one going out about a month in.
As far as the rest of the parts in my build, just stuff I've added over time. The only thing that's from the "original" build is the HDD, the CPU and the Motherboard. I'm waiting to upgrade the CPU/Motherboard with the release of Ryzen to see how it performs. Anyhow, this rig does well for the gaming I do. Mainly WoW, CSGO, H1Z1, 7 Days to Die, GTAV, etc.

Cool little update. With your new cpu cooler a small cpu overclock would be a fine addition for some free performance. Around 3.8-4GHz should be easy.

Would love to, too scared to lmao. Gigabyte Motherboards come with a free AMD-EasyTune overclock program. I kicked it up to 4.0ghz which was in the "green" and first choice. It worked great until I opened a game and then about 5-10 mins in, complete computer restart. Not really sure how to mess with voltages/clocks manually.

If you really want some performance download MSI afterburner and Unigine Heaven and overclock you GPU. Just add 50 percent on the power limit and increase your core clock by 10-20mhz and when Unigine heaven crashes or your clock rate is fluctuating add 5-10mvs.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip/trick. I think i'll give that a try. The only reason I use the MSI Gaming APP is for the LED and "easy" overclocking that supposedly doesn't do a whole lot. I'll give it a shot!

Well that easy overclocking could give your card the extra boost to stay at 60fps.

Nice build! If you want another cheap upgrade sell your fx 6100 and buy a cheap fx 8320 off eBay :)

totally thought about doing that but with all the news about Ryzen dropping "SoonTM", I've been holding out.

How well would this perform playing Arma 3

I'm looking to get into pc gaming and would like to find a good price one that can run games well

Thanks for any help or advice

Not sure about ARMA 3 as I've never played it but have wanted to. I don't really see any issue as since I've upgraded to the RX 480, I've been able to play everything with pretty high settings and still keeping a good framerate. The weakness in this build is my old AMD FX-6100 CPU. That causes some bottlenecks so I would suggest that if you went down a path similar to mine, make sure to get an updated/newer CPU.

arma very single core/thread intensive, I have it and on altis my i5 6500 is fine, but tonoa it maxes my i5 6500 out to 100% in the city

Holy crap

Thank god you replaced that CPU cooler...

Yeah I ran it with a stock cooler for the past 3 years I've had it. I never worried about it before but then got the new case and so then I decided to check out temps while playing H1Z1 with HWMonitor, and I saw it hit almost 60c. Looked up max temps for the CPU and it was below but still worried me so figured it was time to actually get off the stock cooler. I thought I was "computer smart" when I first built this and didn't need a cooler, I've realized the errors in my ways.

Lol 50c-60c is normal in my book. My 6700k hits around 62-67C with a 4.6GHz OC during gaming.

Yeah, that's what a lot of posts said when I researched it. It still bothered me though probably just my way of rationalizing to get a new cooler because of the temps friends were getting >.> Don't tell my wife.

in his description, his motherboard is much older than this current build.

Do you not know how to read a post before commenting, because it seems like you just checked the build, looked at the parts and their prices, and made this comment without knowing the reason for why he had it.

The mobo is from the original build back in 2013ish (which I put in the summary), I don't even think I paid $200 for it TBH but around $120ish? Can't remember but yeah weellll before the Ryzen annoucments and such.
