Description

Split Brain gaming machine. So a bit of background, where this rig is located space is a premium. So I opted to take a decent build and half it between my wife and I, using VMWare ESXi. So my wife and i game on two virtual machines, each VM gets 1 960, roughly half the ram, storage, and a passed through USB card. I went with the 6850k due to the lanes it affords and quad channel ability.

Any reason why you went with these parts? I'n guessing this is a older build but why the 6850k for gaming? 64gb is a lot of ram, but my main question would be why the 2 960's at $389 each when something like a 1080ti even a year ago would have been around the same, plus the 960's don't even have a sli bridge so does the second gpu even affect gaming? Please don't take this as hate, your build is actually very nice and looks quite good, also the push pull looks sick with how close the fans get to the gpu's imo, but why not add some extra info on why you chose your parts in the description and change the prices to what you paid cause i don't really believe you paid $800 on two 960's.

Rig is over a yr old plus some change in this form. Has been a on-going project for many-many years. Just noticed they listed my mouse for over $300.....yeah would sell it if that were the case lol.

Oh that's really cool how you use the 960's in a vm, makes a lot of since now on why you chose the parts you did, cool interesting build you got!

I assume with the USB add-in card this might be used for VFIO/unRAID?

The add-in card is a USB controller that is passed through to a ESXi virtual machine.

Ah, so I was close. Are you using the Web GUI or SSH for management?

Just beware that you might not be able to play Battleye and VAC enabled games since they explicitly ban playing within a VM.

Both. Web gui mainly and ssh for patches to the host.
