UPDATE: I HAVE SWAPPED OUT THE WIMPY EK SE 360 FOR THE BEEFTASTIC EK XE 360. That is all, will post pics soon :)
So first off let me just say I am a hardcore PC enthusiast and there is nothing more I love doing with my time than building computers and bending PETG. Well... besides gaming obviously! I was a heroin addict for 5 years and had been in and out of prison and rehab a few times. When I finally got it together I spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted to do and I discovered some tech channels on youtube around that time. I knew I had to build an awesome PC because I love to game and I knew PC gaming was the way to go! Once I finished the first build I knew I had to keep going on this journey! The next step was watercooling, it started off with soft tubes and then onto bending some PETG! After that we ended up here with what you are seeing right now! My first proper enthusiast system and I am very happy with how its all turned out! This process has taught me a lot and I can apply all these lessons to my life as well. Hard work pays off, set goals and work to achieve them, and patience! I can't tell you how often I'm here looking at all these builds that get posted and nerding out over them. A lot of people don't get it which is why I'm glad there's a website full of like-minded people to show off there builds! It's pretty awesome!
The primary use of this system is gaming/benchmarking! I have plans to start some streaming and making some videos to have this live up to its full potential. Before everyone starts hating that I don't need all this and it's an unnecessary upgrade. I totally agree with the unnecessary part lol BUT I am a PC enthusiast just like a lot of you. Now if I was into cars you wouldn't say "hey dude you don't need that Lamborghini with it's twin turbo's and 12 cylinders of pure awesome or that '69 Chevelle with that big block of pure fury, this prius will get you where you gotta go and it's more sensible and safe! Just look at that backup camera!" right? Sure I don't need 64Gb of RAM or 10 cores but DAMNIT I wanted it and I love it now that I've got it! Also in regards to Threadripper I don't hate on AMD at all! I love Ryzen and I love AMD because what they are doing for the mainstream and the consumers is AMAZING! The only reason I decided not to go with AMD was clock speed and I don't hate on anyone who did go with AMD. I hear that Ryzen 2 is going to have higher clocks which I really hope it does! It's about time Intel started feeling some heat! I hope nVIDIA is coming soon because they have gotten super complacent in my opinion! The only thing I am a fanboy of is TECH!
ANYWAYS here's everything that's been modded on this build:
Top Fan Cavity: I got this idea from this forum:[https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/477097-phanteks-enthoo-evolv-atx-top-fan-cavity-mod/]. It will give you a good walkthrough and idea of the finished product! I took a dremel and cut the lips off the roof of the case and the top of the removable radiator bracket. After that I could easily fit any normal sized fan up above the radiator bracket. I did that so it wouldn't look so crowded at the top of the case and you would only see the radiators in there. I know it is form over function as the airflow up there is far from ideal. I compensated for that though by getting some excellent static pressure fans and thermals are definitely fine! Plus it stays very quiet even under load.
7900X Delid: I delidded my 7700K myself but I did not feel comfortable doing the same to my 7900X. Plus I didn't have the proper tool as the Rockit 88 wasn't certified to work with Skylake-X. So I sent it off too siliconlottery.com and they did a FANTASTIC job! I sent it one day, the next day it was delidded and shipped back, and I had it back the following day! 25-30c drops in my temps was definitely worth the hundred or so bucks!! I have it @ 4.7GHz at 1.27v, Cache is @ 3GHz as well. I've gotten it to boot and complete some benchmarks at 4.8GHz but it wasn't 100% stable so I keep it at 4.7GHz for 24/7 use.
1080 Ti Shunt Mod: I watched this mod in a der8auer video and decided I would try it out and see if it worked for me. I can overclock my card to 2.1Ghz but it always would run into the power limit and downclock. Unfortunately even after the shunt mod it still hit the limit at 2.1GHz and I had to drop back to 2050. Honestly it didn't even improve my benchmarks by a meaningful amount but it is nice to see a stable clock rate.
Misc: I drilled 3 holes in the back of the case for the other pump in the loop. The honeycomb pattern looks like it would fit a pump mount but it did not. Drilling holes was easy enough though and installation was a breeze. I also have 2 phanteks RGB LED's along with the NZXT Hue+ and I placed one in the back and the other in the front just to create some cool ambient light. Also to the give the case a different look when you see it from the front.
I decided to go with two pumps because I noticed with just one pump it was working pretty hard to get everything through the loop, it was constantly at 100%, and my temps were suffering a bit. I used to have a dual loop in my old setup but decided to just do one big loop so my GPU and CPU would get the benefit of two radiators rather than one. Now I can have the pumps set lower than normal and still get great flow rate!
All the watercooling gear was bought from performance pcs and they will generally have everything that is watercooling! They are great and anything I could not find there or was out of stock I got from newegg. The blocks, pumps, reservoirs, and one rad are EK, fittings are bitspower for the rotary 90 and t-fitting, primochill for the compression, and a couple alphacool dual rotary and XSPC ball valve. The tubing is primochill also and the other rad is hardwarelabs black ice x-flow.
The only problem I ever ran into with X299 was when the bios update 0503(i think ?) came out and my memory wouldn't get to it's rated XMP of 3200 or anything below that. It was 2133 or nothing and that was pretty frustrating but I knew that with new platforms comes growing pains and now after a few updates everything is working GREAT!
I plan on changing the case and a few other things in the future so keep an eye out for it! I hope you all enjoy my creation because I know I enjoy seeing all of yours!! Thanks for taking a look it has been an awesome process!
Absolutely love this beast! If you had told me last year that there would be a 10 core CPU that overclocks to 4.7Ghz like it's nothing I would have laughed at you! Here we are though and I could not be more happy with where technology is today! This is a very powerful CPU and while it is a little hot, it's nothing a delid can't solve! Well worth the money and I would recommend the 7900X looking for a good enthusiast processor!
No words for this stuff! I never thought there was much of a difference in most thermal paste but Thermal Grizzly proved me wrong! This stuff is GREAT! It's a little hard to spread but warm it up in some hot water and it's easy as the rest! Really great product!
Used CLU in the past and have to say this stuff blows it out of the water! Easier to use and excellent on any CPU that has been delidded!
Great motherboard! Had some growing pains with the early BIOS but all that has been solved! The only thing is that the Live Dash is a little crooked but I can still see it! That would be my only gripe about this board! ASUS really keeps delivering when it comes to their PC hardware! Love those guys!
The VERY BEST implementation of RGB on RAM I have EVER SEEN PERIOD! This stuff is the centerpiece to any build trying to put in a little RGB. The default effect looks great and if you have Asus Aura you can do some really cool stuff with it! Seriously I recommend this stuff to everyone and I get a lot of comments on how cool this stuff is!
Have my OS on here and it is a zippy little drive. Boot takes next to nothing and I can remember growing up when booting took literally FOREVER! Same with the internet so I'm easily impressed when it comes to this stuff :)
Nice, lots of space, and what I needed at the time. Holds all my games and most files not related to my OS or windows. The only thing I have an issue with was the price but that's what I get for going to Best Buy...
I love this card and being able to run all my games at max settings is great! High frames with low temps! Definitely gets the job done!
Such a great looking case! It may be form over function because the airflow is far from the greatest BUT that can be easily compensated for with some beefy fans! Looks stunning though and the support for all things water cooling was a big factor for me!
EXCELLENT PRODUCT! This came highly recommended to me and it did not disappoint. From the packaging to the PSU itself everything was very high quality. Fully modular was an awesome upgrade from the 80+ Bronze semi-modular that I had prior. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice big power supply!
GREAT FAN! Nice and quiet and very slim which was exactly what I needed! This is the only slim fan I could find that didn't look to crazy, wasn't too loud, and was 140mm. I have maybe 20mm of space behind my pump in the back and really needed an exhaust fan and this fan fit in perfectly!
Have two of these stuffed in the top of my case where there is basically zero airflow and they still push the air through my radiator with vigor! And up until about 1400rpm they are dead silent! A BIG MUST in my case because I am all about silence!
Have three of these in the front of my case and the airflow is a bit better up here but still far from ideal! I'll say the same thing I said about the 140's NOCTUA makes AMAZING fans! Even choked for air they generate some great pressure, perfect for any radiator!
My first mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches! Really awesome switch and I will never go back! I wanted Blue but Red switches have been really awesome! Also the RGB is really well done on here. The CUE software can be buggy but once you get the hang of it it's easy to use!
It's a really good mouse. Can't really say much else? It feels nice?
Really good headset! Very comfy, which is good cause I have a big head, and the sound is really amazing! For the price compared to other nice headsets you are getting a lot! The mic isn't the best but that's how it is with really any headset. If you want high quality mic you need a stand alone! The stitching around the top was an awesome touch too!
Easy setup and awesome RGBness! You can have your system be whatever theme you want and that's what I was going for! I did not want to be stuck to one color forever I like to change things with how I am feeling and this little guy makes that process so easy. 4 strips is usually more than enough and the CAM software(while a bit buggy sometimes) is great for monitoring things!
I use this to control all my fans in my loop and it is AWESOME! I can set custom curves from the CAM software! Everything stays nice and quiet which is how I like it! Totally simple to use and I would recommend this to anyone with 3 pin fans that they need to control!
It's a bummer I even had to get this but I'm glad there is something out there like this! A lot still needs USB 2.0 headers and the fact my mobo only came with one was a bummer but this was an easy solution. Now I have more than enough and it fits perfectly in the back of my case!
